"Inesse..." Devonne earnestly called from behind.
"You..." Her voice quietly trailed. "What are you doing here?"
"I came here for you."
Hennesse could only frown at what she heard. "Just what is your purpose coming here?"
Devonne slowly swallowed the lump in his throat as he raised his head. "I... I want to start over with you."
His words immediately made her stiffen. Hennesse's throat ran dry as she was caught off-guard. She tried to move away from his grasp, yet even in her third attempt, Devonne only held her tighter.
"I've searched for you for so long. Do you know that? I've waited for many years to see you again, and when I did see you again, you disappeared without a word so quickly..." He spoke with evident pain in his voice.
Having her attempts to free herself fail, she had no choice but to stay put in his embrace as she turned her head away, biting her lips in conflict.
"I have never asked you to look nor wait for me." Hennesse said quietly.
The brief silence filtered through the empty corridor, not long before Devonne broke the quietness.
"I know, Inesse. I really regret everything..."
"....."
"I know I was wrong and selfish for lying that we were married... I was desperate until the very end and willingly did all that to make you stay... I know I was at great fault, so please give me another chance to make up for everything..." He pleaded.
Hennesse inhaled a ragged breath before feigning a sigh. "Why are you here?" She asked, not paying a mind to his words.
Devonne hopelessly lowered his head as he answered. "Will you... believe me, if I say that I cannot bear to live through another day without you?"
A breath hitched in Hennesse's throat, stunned by his words. It was a mere while before she could fully process what he meant. "I won't, don't be ridiculous-"
"Inesse... I've lived years longing and missing you. But after seeing you again I... I don't think I can do that anymore. I don't think I can bear to wait anymore. The long while I searched for you for the past three months drove me more crazy every day. I really can't live without you...."
It was evident how desperate he was just by the sound of his shaking voice. How serious yet pained he sounded made Hennesse's mouth run dry. And somehow, she felt as though it was her fault.
Although she greatly denied it at that moment, his words made her confused heart beat faster. Hennesse wanted to scold herself so much.
'No. Why should I feel anything toward him, who made me feel like my existence was an annoyance? Who made me feel useless as he played and left me for another woman.'
"Please believe me Inesse... I really-"
"Can you let go? We've long been over. There is no relationship between us, and besides, why are you here? Shouldn't you be with Cecilia?" Hennesse spoke in a taunting manner.
'I know very well that I still hold a grudge against him, yet why is my heart, even if it is only so subtle, still shaken by his words..?'
But upon her saying so, hearing her words made Devonne's chest twist painfully, reminded of his faults and wrong-doings of the past.
"I-I have long gotten rid of that woman Inesse... It was my fault. It was all my fault, I'm sorry..."
"I-Im sorry for believing others and not you... I really-"
