Promises are Meant to be Broken

Chapter 10

"Hey, Brielle. Kakain kami sa labas, baka gusto mong sumama?" Patrick asked me again.

Wala na atang araw na hindi niya ako inaya na kumain sa labas. We're not even close. Sadyang makulit lang siya.

"Mauna na kayo. Susunod ako," iyon palagi ang sinasabi ko sa kaniya.

He sighs, disappointed. "Alright. I hope you can join us at least one day before the graduation. See you tomorrow, Brielle."

Because of his words, naiwan ako ritong guilty. I just... don't want to entertain new people. Sapat na iyong magkaklase kami. I feel pity for myself.

Aalis na sana ako nang makasalubong ko si Ace. We stare with each other, and I instantly looked away.

"Are you—"

"Race! Let's go now!" Ivy cut his words. The scenario is always like this. Tuwing kakausapin ako ni Ace, palaging sumisingit si Ivy. "Baka hanapin tayo,"

Nagpatuloy ako sa paglalakad at nagawa ko pang lagpasan si Ace. Nakakapagod. Parang ako na ngayon iyong hadlang. That's one of the reasons why I don't want to talk to him. Ayaw ko nang away.

Tulala akong nakatingin sa steering wheel ng aking sasakyan. Magmula kaninang sumakay ako ay hindi parin ako umaalis. Hindi parin ako nasasanay na wala akong kausap. I wanted to graduate now!

"Let's go home," I startled when someone open the door of my car. My eyes widened when I saw Ace entering inside. Kumportable siyang sumandal sa upuan habang nakakrus pa ang mga kamay sa harap ng dibdib.

"What are you—" naiikot ko na lang ang mata ko at hindi na lang itinuloy ang sasabihin ko. I just calmed myself and decided to go out of my car. Kailangan bang inisin niya ako lalo?

I took a deep breath and pinned myself into my car. I picked up my phone when it suddenly ringing. My forehead creased when an unknown number flashed in my screen. I just answer the call.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Good day, Engineer de Guzman!" Napangiti ako nang mapagtanto na boses ni Engineer Zav ang narinig ko. "Are you... still in your university?"

"Yes, Engineer Zav. Why? Do you need something?"

"Actually, I was in front of your unit,"

My lips parted. "Really? Why is it all of a sudden? You should've message me earlier."

"Uhm, your grandfather wanted to surprise you that's why I didn't message you earlier. And seems like he was the one who got surprised because you're not here." Natawa pa siya sa paliwanag niya.

"I see. Tell my grandfather that I'm going home now. Wait for me, Engineer Zav." I said before ending the call.

Ano na naman kaya ang kailangan ni lolo? He was visiting me lately.

"Who's Engineer Zav?"

"Ay palaka!" Napatalon ako sa gulat nang makita si Ace sa tabi ko. "Is that your new habit? To surprise me?" Inis kong tanong.

"I just..." he scratches his nape, felt embarrassed. "I'm sorry,"

Nasuklay ko na lang ang buhok ko gamit ang aking kamay. Inis akong pumasok sa loob ng kotse ko at binuhay na ang makina. Naiikot ko pa ang mata ko nang sumakay na naman si Ace sa loob.

"I'm not that dumb not to remember the promise that you broke, Ace. Stop fooling around me." Walang emosyon kong sabi bago pinaandar na ang sasakyan.

Tahimik lang kami parehas habang paakyat kami sa unit namin. I hurriedly walk towards my unit when I saw my grandfather and Engineer Zav waiting for me.
