Emmy was rummaging through her closet, struggling to make a decision before she had to leave. Black or red, black or red, she'd gone between the two a million times already. They were two good options and she felt like she was betraying one by picking the other. Black or red, she looked between the gorgeous dresses one more time.
She decided to take a second opinion. Her fingers dialed the buttons to FaceTime Daveed, and she slipped on one of the dresses as it rang. He picked up just a few rings later, answering with an "Emmy?" as her phone pointed to the ceiling.
"Hey," she called from a few steps away, "I need your help." She left the mirror she was facing to pick up her phone. She carried the phone containing Daveed back to the mirror and turned it so that he could see the red bodycon dress she was currently wearing.
"Wow," his mouth dropped on the phone screen. Through the phone, he admired the way the dress hugged her body. "You look hot," he drooled.
"Hold on," Emmy chuckled through the flattery, "I have two to pick from."
She went back to the closet to pick the other potential dress for the night. They were going out soon: her, Daveed, Rafa, and Kim, and her time was slowly dwindling before she had to take Camryn to her babysitters.
It had been about a week since they made things official and Daveed had been really wanting Emmy and Rafa to meet. Daveed had told Rafa all about Emmy which, honestly, made her a bit nervous for what he'd think of her. She'd learned quite a bit about Rafa too, and about his girlfriend who'd be joining them for dinner tonight. According to Daveed, Kim and Rafa had been together for a while now and friends for even longer. Emmy figured that she'd be like the new kid tonight but if Daveed's friends were anything like him, she was sure she'd like them.
Emmy returned to her phone after slipping on the second dress and turning him back to the mirror. She showed off a black silk slip dress that she already felt like she liked more now that she had it on.
Daveed shook his head immediately in awe, "Damnnn," he let the word drag out on his lips, "My god, you are too fine."
Emmy smiled in the mirror, "So you like this one better?"
"Absolutely," he nodded his head excitedly, "Plus, you'll have plenty of times to wear the other one," he added, thinking to future nights out.
"Perfect," she smiled again, taking one more look in the mirror. "Thank you baby," she looked back into the phone screen, "I'll be ready in a few minutes, then I just have to get Camryn squared away, and I'm all yours."
Daveed grinned excitedly, "See you in a bit," he said as he stood up with the phone, "I gotta get Amber out too."
"No kids for the evening," Emmy smiled as she too held the camera up to her face, "It's gonna be like we're young again."
"We could always... blow off dinner," Daveed said with a wink.
"Ok, hanging up now," Emmy shook her head through a laugh, "Goodbye, love you, see you soon."
"You're no fun," Daveed sighed dramatically, "But I love you too. Bye Em."
The two of them disconnected the call and Emmy finished her makeup before heading to Camryn's room. She walked in to quite the mess of Barbie dolls and their accessories, and she couldn't get herself to leave before cleaning them up. Thankfully, she got it done quickly thanks to the Clean Up song and Camryn's help, and finally, she was able to head out the door.
She buckled in her daughter and made two stops once she hit the road: one to the family whose house Camryn would be staying at for the evening, and the other to Daveed's place. She stood outside Daveed's door, waiting for him to open to her knocks. It was mere moments before he stood in the doorways wearing a black dress shirt and some black dress pants.
