Rafa hung up the phone call that had just delivered some of the best news he'd heard in months. He could hardly pull the phone away from his ear; he was so excited. Something he had dreamed of for so long was coming to fruition, and his feet were celebrating with laps around his living room couch.

He moved so freely, so unconsciously, and with such a grand smile, that he hadn't even noticed his dog sitting on the rug. He bumped into her on one of the laps and immediately bent down to her level. "Sorry Mia, got a little bouncy there," he rubbed the dog's side before cocking his head, "You need to eat," he spoke out loud as he reminded himself.

"Come on, you're eating good tonight. We're celebrating," he motioned the dog over as he walked to the kitchen. He pulled out some ground beef and a pan and set the items on the counter. "I gotta call Diggs, hold on Mia."

At Daveed's house, he was chopping carrots while Emmy cut potatoes. They were in the kitchen preparing an impromptu Sunday roast while their kids ran around the house. Every now and then they'd giggle loud enough for them to hear in the kitchen and that was the extent of their watching them while they cooked.

It was random the way the idea of pot roast came about. Daveed and Emmy were texting, as usual, and figured they had one day left of the weekend to hang out. Both of them also needed dinner plans, and Daveed happened to have the ingredients for a roast. So here they were, at 3 pm, chopping vegetables for a sort of blended family dinner.

Once Emmy finished with the potatoes, she moved over to Daveed's side of the island. She came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He put his knife down for the moment as he felt her head nuzzle into his back. "Hey baby," he said as he turned around in her arms. He let his arms complete the hug and he pressed a kiss to both of her temples.

Emmy blushed at him and moved her arms up to his neck. She pressed a kiss to his lips. They still hadn't told the girls yet, but they hadn't heard any noises in a while, so it felt like the coast was clear enough for one more lingering kiss.

They were cut off by the ringing of Daveed's phone and the caller id that read "Rafa." Daveed let out a little pout and stepped away from Emmy to grab it. "Popular man," she smirked as he lifted up the phone with a giggle pulling on his cheeks.

Daveed answered the call with a cheery "Hey man, what's up?"

Rafa was still bouncing inside his shoes, "You're not gonna believe the call I just got."

Daveed's eyebrows curled up in suspense of what he could be in for, "Do tell," he urged him on.

"Jess and Keith just called to say that they got a call that we can shoot the whole thing in Oakland," Rafa beamed, "Exteriors, interiors, all that shit. In the Bay."

Daveed's own rush of dopamine set in as he heard these words, "The whole thing?"

"Every single shot," Rafa nodded with satisfaction even though he knew Daveed couldn't see him.

"No way," he exclaimed so proudly that it struck Emmy with intrigue from across the kitchen. Daveed was wearing a full smile and he carried the excitement through his words, saying multiple variations of "That's crazy."

She didn't know what he was going on about but it made her happy to see him so happy. He was running his hands through his hair and pacing, side to side, working through the apparent disbelief over whatever news he had just received.

The conversation continued as they exchanged excitement back and forth. "Nah, they ain't seen nothing yet," Daveed told his best friend and collaborator, "I hope they know what they in for. We bout to run this shit up," he grinned so proudly. Gears were already turning in his head of how much they more they could do.
