(this is a one off charlie nelson fan fic)

Sometimes dating a detective is really fun, he'll come home all excited telling you about how close they are to finding out who it is or he'll talk about something John did that made him comment something under his breath. These were my favourite things ever

However, there were bad days. He'd come home from bad days going straight to sleep not wanting to talk about his day or he'll come home on the verge of tears and the moment I ask him if he's okay he'll breakdown in tears. I hated seeing him like this,it made me want to cry. One specific day was like this

I was sat on the sofa watching the first Avengers film because I was bored and was waiting for Charlie to return home. It reached 9 pm and I was expecting him to be home soon

9:30 pm approached and he still wasn't home, guess they had found something important in the case

10 pm, I was getting close to finishing my  film and I began to get worried so I picked up my phone and called Charlie, or 'my lover' in my phone

"Hey Char" I said excitedly into the phone as soon as he answered

"Hey love" he sounded tired as he spoke

"Everything alright? You aren't home yet? I was getting worried" I asked him reclining my seat slightly

Charlie was quiet before speaking, "Yeah I'm alright, we just found some evidence against one of the suspects that make them our number one suspect"

"Oh that's amazing! Anything else today?" I asked again

"Yeah..." He dragged out, so I knew something bad had happened "Someone else was killed. Pretty gruesome, I found them"

"Oh my god, are you okay?"

I knew he'd say he was fine, because he did it all the time. I'm not too sure why he still says he's fine because he will come home in the worst mood

"Yeah, I'm fine" Charlie's voice broke a little as he spoke. I didn't want to bombard him with questions so I only asked when he was coming home and he just said soon, that meant he was leaving now

I was so tired but I knew I needed to be there for Charlie. He knew what he would see when he became a detective but he said some of the worst things he'd seen was when he was the one who found the body. Charlie says there's something so disturbing about being the first one to find a dead body, he's okay with seeing it after people as he'd became pretty used to it

That's what you get when you move to Midsommar. Murder after murder after murder

Not long after our phone call, Charlie arrived home. He slowly and quietly opened the door hoping not to wake me, usually when he returns home late I'll be asleep and he'll crawl into bed with me and wrap his arms around me, but I was in the living room waiting for him to enter. When he did, I got up and hugged him tightly

Charlie placed his head into the crook of my neck as I held him in my arms while he cried. I could hear him trying to say something, maybe him saying sorry, but I knew he didn't want to talk so I just lightly shushed him and told him it was all okay

We stayed like this for a bit as I told him reassuring things and I told him that I loved him and I'm here for him whenever he needs to talk, his sobbing had slowed down now and he was trying to catch his breath

He finally pulled away but his hands were still around my waist and my hands were around his neck, now holding his face. His eyes were red and puffy, his lip was slightly trembling and his cheeks were flushed, I hated seeing him cry but I knew he needed it. I just looked him into his eyes and said

"I love you" and got onto my tiptoes to kiss his forehead, he smiled a little but once he did I could see tears forming in his eyes again

"No no it's okay, it's okay!" I started playing with his long-ish hair that he was growing out. Slowly, pulling him down onto the sofa I told him I love him so much and if he needs to keep crying he can. I softly kissed his lips a few times before bringing him close to me and planted light but long kisses onto his closed eyes

We stayed quiet until Charlie broke the silence with

"I love you so much"
