Chapter Twelve:
DistanceSakina Joelle Davidson
New York City, New York"I can't believe you came so quick." Sakina squealed as her sister walked through the door, she shut it and followed her.
"It's been a while since you've you've heartbroken enough to text me." Lenora stated, grabbing two wine glasses from the kitchen.
Sakina grabbed two spoons and they walked to the living room. Both sisters slumped right next to each other and pulled a thick blanket over the both of them. Lenora pulled out the large tub of salted caramel ice cream while the younger sister poured the red wine.
"So, this is gonna be vague advice right?" Lenora asked, they'd always been good at establishing their boundaries.
There were times when Lenora needed help but she didn't want to go into detail, she'd just needed support and Sakina was there, and vice versa. Both of them knew that sometimes someone didn't want to go into detail and that was okay, which was why Lenora was so chill.
"Yeah." Sakina nodded, she grabbed a spoon and took a scoop of ice cream before eating it, enjoying the coldness and sweetness.
Lenora sipped her wine as she put on the movie 'Daddy's Girls' in the background and lowered the volume before turning to face her younger sister, placing the ice cream in the centre. Sakina sighed deeply before beginning to explain.
"I got a person that I like and I told them that I like them." Sakina explained while her sister nodded, "They said they wasn't interested and I just can't get them out of my mind."
"Obviously I know no means no but I'm just stuck on what to do. I was harsh earlier because I was still butthurt but now I don't know how to approach this." Sakina continued, she had another scoop of ice cream while Lenora thought it over.
"You gotta be around this person a lot?" She asked and Sakina thought about it before nodding.
"They're my partner for the project and they're in most of my lectures." She replied.
"The way I see it, you don't have a choice on how you act. You have to be around that person, so be nice and respectful.Treat them like an acquaintance." Lenora began, "Don't allow the chance for moments between just the two of you, that way you can't crumble."
"Understood." Sakina nodded, she was going to struggle with this but in the end it would be worth it.
"I feel like such a kid, bro. Crushing over some person and struggling to focus." Sakina groaned before gulping down all the wine in her glass.
