As weird as they were, I was grateful for the Birch's. They were the only thing saving me from going on a shitty vacation with my mom and her latest boyfriend. I loaded my stuff into the back of my van and waved to my mom as I slid into the driver's seat.

I sent off a quick text to Judd before heading across town to his place. I let out a quiet sigh as I pulled into the driveway. Elliott and Diane always made my skin crawl, though at least they always had good intentions. I believed it was because my family was never close.

I adjusted my ponytail before turning off my van and slipping the keys in my pocket. I gathered my bags out of the truck and knocked on the door. It opened to reveal Elliott, standing with this euphoric look on his face. "Oh! I was hoping you'd be here soon." He threw his arms around my neck and pulled me into a tight embrace, squeezing me and humming happily.

"Let me get those." He took a few of my bags and stepped out of the door frame. I walked in and nodded towards the small group of middle schoolers sitting in the living room. I recognized Nick and Andrew easily enough, Judd's little brother and his pervy friend. Then there was Jessi, a redhead with a fiery personality. She kind of sucked though, screaming #GirlBoss while slut-shaming other women. I loved to gossip with Nick, I forgot how entertaining middle school drama was. Then there was another boy, olive skin with jet black hair. Kind of smelled like wet dog.

Judd slid down the stairs railing, something I've only ever seen him do once. He said it made him feel like the definition of white boy. No idea what that's supposed to mean. "Hey." He said as he pushed his bangs out of his face. He'd grown them out since the last time he dyed his blue streaks. Though, he promised me that just once he'd dye them hot pink in exchange for other things. I grinned and placed my hands on his chest. "Hello." We stood there smiling at one another, something Judd didn't do often. I've mostly seen him smile when he's terrorizing Nick.

He leaned into my ear and whispered quietly, "I've stocked up for your stay." I let out a sigh of relief. I hadn't been able to smoke any bud since my mom lost her job. She was home constantly and incredibly rude, with the added bonus of her barging in my room every 45 minutes. I followed Judd into the living room, my idea. I wanted to watch tv and get to know everyone. Judd and I were definitely getting more serious and I knew these people would probably be around for a while. We settled in on the middle of the couch, the children splitting to one side or the other.

I turned to face Nick as Judd wrapped an arm around me. "Hi, Nick." I said, lifting a hand to wave. "Hey, Dylan." He replied, his voice shaking slightly. "What'cha been up to?" He shrugged. "School. Dumb shit." He put on his best 'tough guy voice' as Judd called it. "So no hobbies?" He glanced at his phone. "Sometimes I make tiktok videos and play games." "What's your user? I'll follow you." I could hear Judd stifle a laugh. "Uh, Nicky.Birch.01." He said as he double checked. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and typed his name into the search before giving him a quick follow.  I had a good few thousand followers, nobody important. I did have a few verified activism accounts following me and some strippers, onlyfans creators.

I mostly posted thirst-traps so I quickly went through and privated them from Nick's account. The remaining videos were activism, POVs, and a few other random things. Andrew pulled his phone out and assumedly took my user from Nick's notifications as I soon got a request from his account. Privated the videos from his too. I rarely let children follow me for that reason. Jessi refused to look at Judd and I, so I tried to include her in the conversation. "Jessi, what do you do for fun?" She glanced at me for a moment. "I fight the patriarchy and other unfair systems." She grumbled quietly. "Right on little dude. You're making a bigger impact than it feels like." I said with a smile.

I looked at Andrew. "What about you, man-baby?" His face flushed. "Well, I dabble in jazz and hat collecting. I make memes occasionally." I nodded along. "Keep it up, maybe you'll be Lisa Simpson level one day." I gently punched his shoulder. He shuddered slightly with this strange look on his face. "Send me some of your memes sometime." I texted him my number on tiktok with a ':)' added.
