I sat on the couch, reading a book for one of my classes. It was Saturday and I needed to finish it. It was a decent book, I'd read it again. Maybe not for a while, wasn't that good. I covered myself with a blanket and nuzzled into the couch, sighing quietly. I should've watched the movie and read the summary. Andrew sat down on the couch next to me, a few inches away from my feet.
"I've read that book. Not very good." He said, a smug grin on his face. I didn't think he realized how much he truly looked like an asshole. He probably thought he was flirting. Dumbass. I looked over at him, placing my thumb between the pages just in case. "I don't know, I'm loving it so far." No, I wasn't but it was the point now. "Oh, um.." He looked away and nervously fidgeted with his sleeve. "Oh! I'm thinking of a different book! Yeah, that one is pretty great." He finally said after a long period of silence.
"Andrew, what are you doing?" Nick looked cautious, like he was afraid of Andrew being alone with me. Me too, honestly. "Just having a delightful conversation about the book Dylan is reading." Andrew replied, putting his hands on his hips. Less snooty-like and more of an attempt to be confident. An attempt. "Fucking.. God.." Nick groaned quietly.
Jay hopped down the stairs shortly after Nick, a blonde girl following closely behind him. "Jay, who's that?" She asked, pointing an accusatory finger in my direction. "That's Judd's girlfriend, Nick's older brother." He said quickly, motioning to the sound of Judd crawling through the vents. Nobody really knew why he did that. I'd say the quiet but you can hear everything, I'd been in them before. Nick leaned in close. "That's Lola. She's Jay's on-again off-again girlfriend. This is like the third time they've been together. Or fourth. I don't know, we've all lost count." He whispered, glancing back at them.
I watched Lola cross her arms over her chest. "I've seen you look at her! You're such a liar!" She screamed, shoving him down two stairs so she was cowering over him. He tried to explain himself but before he could, Judd crawled out of a nearby vent and lifted him up by his shirt. "Keep your disgusting Bilzerian eyes to yourself or I'll cut your dick off and sew it across them." He spoke quietly and slowly, making sure Jay heard every word. Nick stood next to the couch, shaking his head.
"Okay, I've had my fill of bullshit for today." I said as I gathered my things. Andrew and I decided to head to his house for the tutoring. As we walked in, a loud voice rang out. "Andrew! Is that babysitter here yet?" Andrew's face brightened. "Hi Mr. Glouberman! I bought scallops!" Andrew had made me stop for them. Silence. "Andrew! What is the babysitter's name?" "Dad! It's Dylan!" He said, looking absolutely exhausted. "Dylan!" He shouted. Andrew nudged me towards the living room.
I hesitantly walked in, standing on the other side of the room. "Please, make yourself at home. Are you hungry? Take anything you want from the fridge." His tone was a lot softer than the one he used with Andrew. "Hell, move in if you want. Take Andrew's room! He never buys me scallops." I politely declined and followed Andrew up to his room, setting my things down on one side of his desk.
We started with easier subjects and moved on to harder ones. I stopped every so often for him to ask questions. It was pretty late by the time we finished. And one too many times had I caught Andrew staring at my cleavage. I walked out and closed his door behind me, sighing quietly. Barbara ended up giving me extra for the scallops while begging me not to do that again. I agreed with an added apology.
