"Haruka!"
"Uhm?" she mumbled. She had been sitting on a stone bench in her family's garden when a voice called out to her. She looked up, squinting from the distance, to see Solo standing on the other side of the pond with a tray in hand. She didn't get to enjoy the amazing view of their garden often but when she did, she was always amazed.
Her father had customized the spacious backyard to mimic the garden they had at their old place, but with some minor alterations. Their backyard was big enough for another mansion to be build on the spot, but she was glad they used the space for something else. The area she was in was her favorite. A weeping willow sat next to the bench creating a veil effect over her and shielding her from the bright sun rays. In front of her, sat a large koi pond lined with plants, gravel and rocks, and a waterfall on one of the edges. To go back to the house, she would have to go through the bridge built over the pond. Solo approached the garden furniture and set the tray on the table, picking up the tea saucer and placing it in front of her usual chair.
She closed her book and held it in her arms. She crossed the bridge, looking over the beautiful fish as they swam by elegantly. They were the same fish they had at their previous home, to her delight. She walked closer to Solo going across the vibrant flower beds planted next to the patio area. She sat down in her seat and thanked Solo for the tea, telling him to join her. He sat down and Haruka grabbed the other cup on the tray and poured him tea.
The weather forecast had said it was going to rain today, but the skies were clear and the sun was shining bright. So, Haruka took advantage of the nice weather and read outside instead of inside.
"I heard your father is bringing a guest home" she turned to him questioningly. Her father hadn't mentioned anything to her. They usually didn't have guests over so it was strange. She took a note that she would most probably have to dress formally for dinner. She sat outside, reading her book, for a few more hours until she got tired and went back inside.
She even played the violin to pass the time, but she got hungry and decided to make an afternoon snack. She grabbed a loaf from the bread box and picked up a knife to make a sandwich. She wasn't going to wait until dinner to clench her hunger. She set her toppings to the side and cut the loaf into slices.
"Hello, Mr. Chaiya!" the knife slipped as she heard the recognizable voice. Kaito. He was here. At her house. She froze and dropped the knife on the counter top. Her ears rang as her mind tried to make sense of the situation. What was she going to do? She could feel her heartbeat pick up in anxiousness and she found it hard to breathe altogether. Hearing something drop in the kitchen, Min went to check up on the commotion. At first, he didn't think much of it since he couldn't see any glass on the floor. But as he approached her, his eyes widened in shock. Blood was spattered on to the cutting board and dripping down her wrist. He swiftly grabbed a towel and held it tightly against her hand.
She was brought back from her thoughts when she felt excruciating pain. She looked down to see Min hold a towel to her bleeding hand. She didn't even notice she had cut herself with the knife until Min tried to help her. She was caught so off guard by Kaito's unexpected arrival that she had cut her palm accidentally. Min yelled out to Solo to come help him with something, not wanting to garther too much attention. When guests were around, you were supposed to avoid letting them know when something was wrong. Haruka was thankful for that unspoken rule. She didn't want Kaito to come in to the kitchen and check up on what was going on. Why was he here in the first place?
