Chapter 4
Aubrey
A magical moment, on a special night, to begin the next journey of our lives. The next step starts the beginning of a new chapter. One where I join the Bradford family. And they join mine. I'm about to go from being an only child to just one of many in the Bradford's crazy life.
I'm marrying into the fame and fortune of one of the biggest richest families in the country. It's like joining the Kennedys or Rockefellers. The west coast elite is now my family. And yet Beckett is as small-town as I am. Georgia is welcoming and loving as my own.
So much will change and yet it all stays the same.
After everything that happened earlier, I feel paranoid about walking down the aisle and thinking all of the bad stuff is behind us. How can it be? Our home was set on fire, I was stabbed, Lump was hurt, Fitz broke into the Inn. Not to mention Lindsey is probably down there with her Dad just waiting to stop us. Nothing is ever as easy as I hoped for.
"You ready, honey? I know Beckett is biting at the bit to marry you." Will asks as he guides me to the back door.
The girls have already gone down the aisle. It's just me now. Maybe all the bad stuff is behind us now. Maybe what was going to go wrong has. Maybe we can finally take this step forward.
Hoping for the best and bracing for the worst, I take a breath and release it slowly. Nodding to Will, trying to keep my emotions in check, we step through the lattice archway.
Flowers and white twinkle lights explode around us. It's like walking into my very own fairy garden. It's beautiful. Blooms of spring are bursting in every color, green mint and orange blossoms scent the air, orange marigolds, sunny black eyed Susan's reach for the sky. Lavender morning glories and red Indian paint brushes explode around the edges of the garden, and white gardenias blossom makes everything pop with color while butterflies flutter around the blooms in the fading sunset. It's all so magical.
"Georgia certainly painted a picture perfect wedding for you." Will whispers as we step onto the white runner.
"Yes, she did." My breath caught, looking down the long white aisle and finding Beckett stepping to the middle of the aisle waiting for me.
My heart pounds, I tremble slightly, not in fear but excitement, seeing his eyes go wide and light up meeting my gaze. I can't look away. I don't want to. This is the moment every little girl waits for.
The music changes to Simple Gifts, the song I've wanted for this moment since I was a little girl. As Will guides me, one step at a time, the words go through my head.
"Tis' a gift to be simple, tis' a gift to be free. Tis' a gift to come down where you want to be. And when you find yourself in a place just right, you will be in the valley of love and delight."
"He's only got eyes for you, Aub." Will whispers, seeing the same look on Beckett's face as I do. With a smile on my lips a tear slips down my cheek. I don't notice it, I'm too happy, too entranced by this amazing man who is making my dreams come true.
Blake grins and squeezes Beckett's shoulder. As if he's sharing a private joke with his brother. Beckett smiles and my mouth goes slack, he's gorgeous. It's only now I notice the family resemblance between him and Blake. Those green eyes, one deeper than the other, Beckett's flash with gold while Blake's are more emerald. But the build of both of them, the smiles and that twinkle lighting up their faces are the same. There's no mistaking that they're brothers. Beckett is every inch a Bradford.
