Chapter 13

Aubrey

Turning around just as I heard the sound of claws on the wood floor, I'm rushed by my two favorite people. Lump and Max, my fur babies. I know they aren't people but they're our best babies and wonderful security for me. I trust my dogs more than I do most people.

Dropping to my knees I'm licked, nudged and leaned into all while those whips for tails wack and slap me and Beckett. Lump's tail nearly took a crystal vase off the coffee table. It's a good thing my man is good with his hands.

"Were you good boys for Brynn? Were my boys good? Of course, you were, huh? You're always good." Rubbing and loving my boys, Brynn laughs at me, when Max puts his front paws on my shoulders and pushes me over, then lays next to me and goes belly up.

"You're going to spoil them by doing that." Beckett scolds me when I pull the two bones out of my pocket for them. "They need to be fed first."

"They'll eat their dinner, don't worry." I smile up at Beckett, when he leans over to scratch his pup's belly.

Wells, Georgia, and a few others come into the library to join us. Taking the moment to explain what happened earlier to Georgia before Quinn comes in, I quickly tell what I overheard to the others.

"Are you serious? Lindsey was behind the fire?!" Brynn is outraged hearing this news. "I always knew that bitch was crazy but this solidifies it. She's completely mental!"

"I'll second that." Ethan mutters in agreement and salutes Brynn with his beer.

"Third!" Beckett follows with the others joining in as well.

"I don't think she lit the actual match, but from what she said, she had a hand in planning it. I think she's blackmailing someone on the police force to do her dirty work." Pouring a glass of wine for each of us, I pass Brynn and Georgia's goblets over the coffee table to them.

"I saw her behind my house." Georgia stopped as she lifted her drink and slowly set it down, a fire lighting in her bright green eyes. "Not the night of the fire, but a few times before the fire. She was walking in the woods, I saw her through the tree line. Normally, I wouldn't think twice about it, but it's Lindsey and she isn't exactly a nature girl."

"I believe Aubrey's right. Someone has been following us." Beckett shared what he's seen too.

"And why have you not told me about any of this, boy!?" Georgia is getting angrier as we share our information.

"I wasn't sure it was anything to worry about. Now, I am." Beckett runs his fingers through his hair, pulling it out of his eyes for a moment before it flops right back in his eyes. He needs a haircut. "I thought she was just being possessive, pissed off that I rejected her but harmless. I've caught movement in the tree line late at night when I've taken the dogs out. Lump growls at the trees where she's hiding."

"Beckett is right. She's the only person Lump does that to. He hates her." I agree, knowing that Lindsey tends to bring the animal out in Lump.

"She watches us in town and when we go out to walk the dogs. She stayed far enough back to not get caught, but I've heard them. So does Lump." Beckett paid more attention to what's been going on than I have. I thought I was being paranoid. But I wasn't.

I knew it!

I knew someone had been around the house before the fire. I got that weird feeling of being watched several times. I wrote it off to my imagination working overtime with all the stress of the wedding and everything that happened but Beckett felt it too. I should have said something to him before now, but I thought it was just in my head.
