Chapter 11
Fitz
I was told yesterday's testimony was a blow to the case against me. I was assured that today we would request a dismissal of the case and I could move on with my life. But I'm still here, still handcuffed, and still waiting.
"Don't worry, honey. Daddy said he'd take care of everything." Lindsey coos, as if I believe anything she says.
She's out for payback, revenge on Aubrey for stealing the man she wanted. Who the fuck knows why she's so hot over Beckett Eldren. He's a loser, a bastard of Mike Bradford, who is no better than I am. The only difference is he got in with the matriarch of that family.
Georgia rules the roost and the purse strings in that family. Breyden kissed her ass, so did Cam. They got in good with the Bradford's and are sitting pretty on a pile of money. Even my sister turned on me and is on their side. Well, I'm going to get what's due me now.
I don't care what the debutante's reasons are for being on my side. She's footing the bill for the lawyer. I expect to win. Even if it means we play dirty. I'm not losing my life just because Quinn has my kid. That kid is my payday. And I'm getting paid.
"Then he better start putting up. I don't plan on losing to the likes of them, Lindsey. Tell your daddy I want my millions I'm due. I want to take the Bradford's for every dime they have." If I can't play ball like I wanted, I'll get my money this way.
The way I see it, it's Quinn's fault I got hurt. It's on her I lost my chance and got hooked on the drugs. She owes me, and that kid is going to pay my bills.
"I want custody of my kid." I growl, low and furious as I watch Quinn walk in with her boy toy. It burns my ass that she's rubbing her sex toy in my face. I'll take him down too.
Turning to Lindsey, I grab her arm tight, maybe too tight, when she squeals out in pain and gets everyone's attention. I drop her arm, but I make my point clear. "I know who set the fire. I was there, Lindsey. I want you to take this family down."
Her eyes widened. She knows she's caught. One word from me and Lindsey is in a cell of her own. She knows it. Her eyes darted behind me to the Bradford's then back to mine. She's trying to figure out which one of us will be easier on her.
"I'm doing everything I can. Fitz, I'm on your side. I..."
"Then fix this shit! Or I start talking!" The threat isn't a bluff. I'll sell her out if it means I save my own ass. I'll do whatever is necessary to get out of jail.
Court is called to order. And as the judge begins, he allows a new witness for the Bradford's. Someone who wasn't on the roster, someone who shouldn't be here. Dammit, he's going to sell me out. Fucker!
"We would like to call Caleb Jefferson to the stand." Wells announces.
I'm ready to lose it. My attorney tries to object but after a call to the bench, he's overruled and Caleb walks to the witness stand.
"Please state your full name for the court and your relationship to the defendant."
"Caleb Jefferson. I was a roommate of Fitz in college and I helped him get drugs when he asked." The courtroom rumbled with voices.
"Order!"
"You say you helped Fitz get drugs, when was this?" Wells asked, leaning back against the prosecution's table.
He's too relaxed, secure that he's got me. He doesn't know Caleb. He won't sell me out. I paid him well for what I got. He likes money too much to turn on his best customer.
