Chapter 29
Quinn
Wells managed to get through to the judge this morning. Our hearing has been postponed until the end of the week. Apparently, Wells got a hold of Blake and they relayed the current situation to the judge and he understood things were much more complicated and new charges are coming against both Fitz and now Lindsey.
I just wish I had gotten a hold of Leo. Aubrey said that he was conscious and cursed at Ethan for shooting him but he was in surgery getting the bullet removed. According to Beckett everyone is okay.
He's on his way here with Hope. Georgia and Aubrey both said that Ethan will bring Leo here as soon as he's released. I just wish they had communicated what was going on. I would have gone to the hospital to meet them. I should have been there for Hope and Leo.
I can't change what happened but I can make changes for what's to come. I won't be coddled or told to stay behind again. Hope is my daughter and nothing or no one will ever stop me from protecting her again.
"Beckett said there's a ton of press at the hospital. Blake is dealing with it so he's going to be late getting here. Matt is on the way there now." Aubrey relays her latest text from Beckett.
"Good and Wells is going to head that way right after he finishes filing the paperwork against Lindsey." Georgia has had her hands full since we found out that Lindsey escaped.
When Beckett called on the way to the hospital, he said that Charlie stayed at the cabin with his deputies searching for her. He didn't go into details with me. The only he said was that Hope is fine and Leo got hurt but he's going to be okay and encouraged me to not be too hard on him. Leo wanted to be the one to bring Hope home to me.
"What I don't get is why Charlie didn't cuff her." Emma added as she rocked Hunter in the rocking chair. "You would think that would have been the first thing he did when they got there! Blake said the stupid woman was out of her mind. She actually thought she had more pull than Blake does."
"Beckett said that the priority was Leo. He was in and out of consciousness by then and he had lost a lot of blood. They wanted to get him out of there as fast as possible." Aubrey sat next to me and held my hand. "He's going to be fine, Quinn. It was scary for all of them no matter how much they deny it. They were dealing with alligators and getting the ambulance to the cabin. From what Beckett said Charlie didn't have enough manpower to cover everything."
"You must remember this is a small town. We don't have the same size police force as the city does." Paige stood by the window looking out at the square. Her eyes stayed on the park as she talked. "It's just Charlie and three deputies. From what Will said it was very chaotic."
"Blake said the same thing." Emma agreed. "Between getting Leo out of there and dealing with what Blake said was a shit load of reptiles with some big ass teeth, everyone was pitching in to get them clear of the cabin. Even Fitz was helping them with it. I don't think they expected Lindsey to bolt out of there with all those alligators hanging around."
The more I hear about this, the more danger I know that Fitz and Lindsey put Hope in. I have to wonder what would have happened if the guys hadn't got there when they did. Would Fitz have thought about Hope's safety or would he have only thought about himself. The more I'm learning about him, the more I'm realizing that I never really knew him at all.
I'm also realizing that I need to learn a lot more about Leo before I decide he's the one we want in our lives. What I do know about him is amazing but then I thought the same thing about Fitz and that hasn't turned out so well. I don't trust my judgment right now because of that and I'm afraid it might just cost me.
