Chapter 7

Beckett

Our honeymoon was perfect. The hills of Napa Valley in the spring with the grapes in bloom, the flowers bursting with color and wine with everything. Blake hit the button with his gift. Aubrey was thrilled to be able to walk through the rows, learning how to trim, graft, harvest for each cycle of grapes. Whites, reds, champagne each one was available for us to taste, drink with our meals.

Aubrey was in heaven. That's all that mattered to me. We could have been stuck in a tent for all I cared. As long as it was what she wanted. I enjoyed the long walks with her, the sunset dinners on the patio and watching the sun rise from our bed before falling back to sleep.

We didn't do much else. We didn't need to. I've never been happier than I was this week. I don't mind coming home. I'm good with it because I know Aubrey is with me every morning I wake up and every night I close my eyes.

We came home to some good news. Cole has the drawing ready for the new house. As soon as we get the permits we can begin to demo and start rebuilding our home. I asked him to add a few things just for Aubrey. An atrium in the back. She loves her plants and the sunshine. This gives her a place to enjoy both, while she curls up with one of her books. An office for me, for those days I don't have to get to a site. And two extra bedrooms and baths. Might as well plan on expanding our family now.

Georgia met us last night at the airport. She had everything ready for us to sign for our name change. We are officially Bradford's, God help me. Good or bad, we've signed off on it. I'm sure Blake said a prayer of his own mocking me.

We are putting the past behind us. In more ways than one this week. Getting up this morning we have a busy day. Not for work, although that's waiting too, but we're going to the courthouse today for Fitz's hearing.

I'm to testify as is Ethan, Leo, and Aubrey. I'm hoping Georgia was able to convince Quinn to stay home and let us handle this but I doubt it. She seems to believe she's the reason Fitz is where he is. I disagree, the numbskull took the drugs all on his own. He's done this to himself.

We agreed to all meet at the Inn and walk over to the courthouse together. I think Georgia feels Quinn needs the support. I know I do. Getting dressed quickly,Aubrey informed me that my usual T-shirt and jeans weren't going to work for court. She got out the black dress slacks and a collared shirt, not seeing the eye roll I gave behind her back. Dressed in a long rust skirt and black blouse, she deemed me presentable.

"I'm not the one on trial!" I argued with her.

"Exactly! You're making the statement against him. You want to be taken seriously, Beckett. I know Quinn has a soft spot for Fitz, but he can't get away with what he's done." Aubrey has been torn up over this.

I wish she could stay out of it. I want to shield her and Quinn from the destruction Fitz has caused. I know they're both his victims and have to speak up. I don't have to like it.

"He's not gonna get away with anything, babe. There's too many people willing to speak against him. He's going to jail for what he's done. The kid screwed up." I assure her, kissing her forehead. "I still don't see why I can't wear jeans." Now she rolls her eyes at me.

"Maybe I like the way your butt looks in the slacks. It's sexy." Wiggling her eyebrows, Aubrey rises to her toes. She nips gently at my lips before she walks out of the bedroom. She should have started with that.

After a quick breakfast and a rush to get the dogs settled in, we were ready. We headed straight over to the Inn, leaving the dogs at the house for the morning.
