prologue

"Agent Jareau," the voice called from inside the office.

Jinx entered cautiously from the hall, wondering where her next assignment would be.

"Please, sit," the boss instructed. He turned his chair around and folded his arms on his desk. "Do you know why I've called you in here?"

"For a new assignment, sir," Jinx answered.

"Not just any assignment," he said. He slid the case file forward. "I'm afraid there's only one person for this job. I believe your... familial ties will help you with this one."

Jinx read over the job description. She was to collect information. That, she was good at. It was just who she was to be collecting information from, and what her cover job would be, that concerned her.

"You want me to collect intel on a bunch of people who read and profile people for a living?" Jinx questioned.

"Jinx, you've been an international spy for 5 years now, not to mention a successful one. Your sister has just transferred, and it'll be a perfect time for you to bond with the group, since you'll also know who they've just lost. You'll be able to sympathize with them. Do not underestimate that."

"Of course," Jinx nodded.

"Now, specifically, I want you to gather intel on one, Dr. Spencer Reid. It says here that his mother is a schizophrenic. Not only is he a danger to the government if he goes down the same road, but with his IQ as high as it is, and with the access he has within the government, we just need more information on him is all."

"I understand," Jinx replied.

"It also couldn't help to keep an eye on Penelope Garcia. She got the job in the FBI from hacking into it, so needless to say she could be quite the danger if she goes unchecked. Really, all of them should be watched closely, but specifically Mr. Reid. I don't care how you get your intel, just that you get it. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir," Jinx said.

"Very well. You'll start Monday."
