Lisa was sprawled on her living room couch, bored out of her mind. Honestly, she didn't like the weekends all that much, especially if she didn't make any plans and was stuck at home.
She'd been like this all morning, staring at her phone.
She absent-mindedly scrolled through her contacts, stopping on Jennie's newly input name. If I texted her, she'd probably just ignore me, Lisa said with a sigh.
But she couldn't help wanting to see her.
Chaeyoung was hanging out with her new boyfriend this weekend (yep, she finally made a move on that senior, Sean) and she wasn't exactly close enough with Jungkook to hang out with him alone. Still, she debated texting him anyway since she wanted any excuse to get out of the house.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door opening. Great, time to go back up to my room, she thought. But when she peeked over the couch, she didn't see her mother walking through the door.
"Ji-eun?" Lisa asked, surprised
"Lisa," the woman replied, equally taken aback.
"You're here."
"Of course, I live here," Lisa snorted. "Why are you here?"
"I needed to grab some old documents from mom's office for an internship I'm applying for," Ji-eun replied coolly. "Where is Mom, by the way?"
Lisa leaned back on the couch and sighed.
"Working until the afternoon."
"Bet you're happy about that."
Lisa stiffened. Her sister was well aware of her poor relationship with her mother. In fact, she was basically involved in the bad blood. It was a blessing that Ji-eun didn't live at home anymore.
Ji-eun left the room to enter their mother's office.
A wave of awkwardness fell upon Lisa as she prayed the older woman wouldn't stay long. She doubted she would. It's not like Ji-eun was particularly fond of Lisa either.
After only a few minutes, Ji-eun exited the office with a handful of paperwork. She paused before leaving, much to Lisa's dismay.
"You should visit sometimes," she said solemnly, Lisa was actually shocked by that statement. "What? Why? Are you ever even home long enough for me to visit?"
"Even so, a call or something once in a while would be nice," Ji-eun retorted, her voice growing resentful.
"So now you're going to pretend we have some sort of sisterly bond?" Lisa snapped, growing legitimately angry now. "Where were you during all of last year? Where were you when I had to change schools?"
"That was between you and Mom," Ji-eun argued.
"And it's not like you weren't contacting Dad behind our backs either!"
"Well at least he was willing to talk to me!"
There was an air of silence between them for a few seconds as they stared each other down. Then Ji-eun turned around.
"Don't tell Mom I came over," she ordered, walking out of the house before Lisa could reply.
Lisa sighed heavily. Apparently, this day could get worse.
Now in a horrible mood, Lisa decided to try to walk off her bad feelings. There was a park situated near her house, and luckily it wasn't as crowded due to the overcast weather. As Lisa walked down the sidewalk, she looked up at the sky.
There wasn't a hint of blue peeking through the clouds, and there was a light, chilly breeze. Lisa wondered if it would rain - she didn't remember to bring an umbrella.
This suck. She definitely hadn't expected to see her sister today.
Lisa just wanted to leave the house for good to avoid her mother and sister, but she knew it wasn't possible. She didn't even have a job right now. Maybe she should get one and save up - Lisa wasn't confident that she could bear with it until graduation...
Suddenly, Lisa felt her pocket vibrate, and she pulled her phone out. Her eyes widened, shocked at the name that came up on the screen. Hurriedly, she swiped to answer the call.
"Hello?" Lisa asked, pressing the phone to her ear.
"Uh...hi there. It's Jennie."
"Hey......what's up?" Lisa tried to shake her nerves and prevent herself from stuttering. This was certainly the last thing she expected to pop up.
"Well..." Jennie paused, as if unsure of exactly what to say. "I kind of have a huge favour to ask you."
Lisa swallowed, butterflies starting to swarm in her stomach. "Yeah, sure, what do you need?"
"My dad's gone this weekend and... well, I haven't told him about Kai yet."
"You haven't?" Lisa asked.
"No.....I just haven't found the right timing," Jennie sighed. "Or maybe I'm just scared. But the point is, I'm going to be alone tonight and I guess I'm just...um..."
"Scared?" Lisa asked. She decided not to go into detail about what Jennie would be scared of. She did say that Kai had a track record of breaking into her house, and Lisa's mouth was going dry at the implication.
"Yeah," Jennie breathed. "You're the only person I can really talk to about this right now. I'm terrified that if he was stalking me and he happened to...see me home alone, then he'd..."
Jennie sounded like she was running out of breath, her voice trembling.
"I'm coming over." Lisa said matter-of-factly. "Where do you live?"
"I mean...if you already had plans, then obviously-"
"Trust me, I don't. Especially if you might be in danger."
Jennie was quiet for a few seconds.
"I'll send you the address. Come whenever you want."
Maybe this day wouldn't be so boring after all.
