Chapter 24

Lisa only remembered feeling too giddy to fall asleep last night, so when she woke up late the next morning, she was rather surprised. Immediately, she wondered if yesterday was all a dream, and she didn't actually confess to Jennie and kiss her. The whole thing seemed so preposterous and sudden – Jennie liking her? Keep dreaming!

Lisa turned on her side in her bed and grabbed her phone from the nightstand. It was past 11 o'clock and she had no new messages. She opened up her texts to Jennie, but she wasn't sure what to send her - she's couldn't just up and ask if she'd just dreamt up her encounter with the honour student. So, she went with something that could be taken as a joke if need be.

Lisa: Good morning ❤️❤️

Oh boy, she's gonna love that.

Not only a few minutes passed before Jennie responded.

Jennie: I'm blocking you

Lisa giggled to herself, butterflies swirling around in her stomach.

Lisa: What? That's how I say good morning to all my friends.

Jennie: You have friends?

Lisa: How rude

Several minutes passed as Lisa watched her phone screen like an idiot, just waiting for a new message notification to pop up.

After waiting for a while, she debated just getting out of bed, but her phone buzzed before she could actually do it.

Jennie: ...am I your friend?

Lisa was a bit taken aback by that response. Was she hesitating to send that? Regardless, Lisa's heart started pounding as she typed in her reply. Now was the time to figure out if everything was just a dream.

Lisa: I'm hoping you're a bit more than that

Embarrassed, Lisa buried her face in her pillow, kicking her legs like an over-eager preteen. Was she this pathetic when she started dating her last girlfriend? Were her and Jennie even considered to be dating yet? She certainly wanted to be.

Finally, Lisa's phone vibrated again, so she grabbed it and raised her face out of her pillow.

Jennie: Me too.

The reply shook Lisa to the core, and before she could stop herself, she was pressing the call button and placing the phone to her ear as she lay on her side.

After a few rings, a cautious voice crept from the speaker.

"Uh...hello?"

Just hearing the girl's voice was enough to send electricity down Lisa's spine.

"Hey," she replied lamely.

"Why are you calling me?" Jennie sounded like she was trying to mask her surprise and embarrassment with her usual chilly attitude.

"I just... wanted to hear your voice."

Oh, God, I'm such an idiot.

A few seconds of silence passed, so Lisa scrambled to say something before it got irreparably awkward.

"Uh, so, would you wanna hang out today?" she asked.

Lisa was worried she was coming on too strong after they just admitted their feelings to each other, but the blonde wanted nothing more than to meet again.

Even more so than before, she ached to be in the other girl's presence, to just talk to her, to touch-

I need to calm down.
