━━ "THERE'S NO WAY YOU AGREE WITH THIS." Xiomara walked with Maria out of the front doors of the Triskelion. "There's no way that you think this is a good thing."

"It doesn't matter what we think, Xi," Maria responded calmly. "She's already here, whether you want her to be or not."

Maria and Xiomara's shifts ended roughly at the same time. Unless they were doing the 'saving-the-world' aspect of their jobs, they arrived at the headquarters at seven each morning and clocked out at eight at night. This is the same routine that the two had done since age twenty-one, which was the age that S.H.I.E.L.D opened its doors for new recruits.

In truth, the women started during their college years. They had gained an internship after S.H.I.E.L.D recognized their talent during their high school years. All of their college expenses had been covered by the organization, which was something that the women were forever grateful for.

Xiomara gained her master's degree in psychology at age nineteen after beginning her dual credit classes at age seventeen. Maria, on the other hand, got her master's in engineering at age eighteen after starting her classes at age sixteen. They began their internships, then graduated and became true agents at age twenty-one.

All this to say, they were more than capable at their jobs. And they were more than capable of choosing agents to work with.

"But if you could choose someone else, who would you choose and why?" Xiomara continued as the women approached their cars. Of course, they were parked right next to each other.

"If I could choose any option, I'd choose the option that makes you shut the hell up." The woman rolled her eyes, praying that her friend would drop the subject at some point. "We tried to argue with Fury, but he didn't listen. We can't do anything else. The damage is done. Besides, we could be wrong. Romanoff would make a good agent whether you want to admit it or not."

"It doesn't matter how good she is!" Xiomara argued as the women stood around her jet-black car. "Point is, we know where she came from. We know how she got so good. We know why she was so loyal to them." She bent her fingers, doing air quotes on the word 'was.' "Those are all reasons why we should watch our backs."

"Don't get her fired because of your mistrust, Xi," Maria warned. She knew that Xiomara would definitely complain enough and somehow raise more suspicion about Romanoff's past. "Just accept that Romanoff is working with us and move on."
