Gem sighed heavily. "I'm not sure I believe him."

"Well it's the only explanation we have." Sausage shrugged.

"But that doesn't make it a good one."

"I never said it was a good one!"

The moon shone from a nearby window, illuminating the room in a pale glow. Speckles of stars dotted the inky black ceiling to the outside, and Fwhip was half tempted to ignore the conversation and go and watch them instead. However, he sort of had to pay attention. It was his triplets, after all.

"What if Scott's been concussed? Or Xornoth's altered around his memories?" Gem pressed on. "He's acting strange"

He pulled herself away from zoning out and tried to jolt himself fully back into reality, reentering the conversation. "He still could be possessed."

Sausage hesitated, wringing his hands together. It took him a few seconds to speak. "I don't know. He doesn't… seem possessed."

"Oh not you too, Sausage." Gem groaned, pressing a hand to her face.

"What?" He protested. "He seems to have a pretty good idea of what's going on, even if the details are dodgy, and he isn't doing anything too weird."

"Didn't he try and sneak out to see Xornoth?" Gem sighed again, kicking her foot on the floor a little. "I can't believe I just got told from Scott, of all people, that they were apparently possessed and it's not their fault, like that's something I would expect from Joey."

He frowned. "I don't trust it either, but you know that's not what he said."

As far as he knew, all that had happened was that they had made Scott reluctantly talk about being possessed, although he insisted it wasn't from Xornoth. It had taken a lot of pressing and some very uncomfortable silence before he had mumbled something about someone called 'Exor'. And then he had stopped giving details out all together, retreating into a sullen silence, and muttered about 'asking Xornoth'.

Then Gem had shooed them all out for discussion time and to let Scott get hugged by Jimmy, and Fwhip came to the conclusion that he was glad he wasn't an elf. The pure amount of grey hairs he would get would be astronomical.

"Well it was implied that they were possessed by 'Exor'." Gem argued back. "We don't even know who he is. He could be made up, for all we know."

"Well we could ask Xornoth." He suggested. "That is what Scott told us to do."

"Xornoth has told us literally nothing!" She threw her hands up into the air in pure frustration. Her foot was tapping again. "How are we supposed to get an idea of what's going on if neither of them tell us anything?"

"Woah, woah. It's okay Gem-"

"I know- I just-" She bit her lip. "Can I take a break? From everything? For just a few hours?"

Sausage sprung up and latched onto her, squeezing her into a hug. "Of course you can take a break Gem! We've got your back! We'll fight people for you!"

He chuckled awkwardly and moved into the hug as well. "I don't know about the fighting people part, but we can definitely handle it."

"Yeah! We are very responsible!" He nodded rapidly, in a reassuring manner that held next to zero reassurance.

"I just… are you sure?"

"Yes!"

"Yep!"

She looked somewhat doubtful, then she caved in, slumping her shoulders and sighing. She squeezed them back, holding her staff in a mildly awkward position, but still hugging them.
