"When's the presentation event again?" Amana asked while we were having breakfast.
"Why? You wanna see your woman in green again?" We both smirked and laughed it off. "This weekend actually."
"Are you taking someone special this time?" She was clearly referring to Agatha. The woman I started seeing a few days after my last encounter with Nate.
"Agatha's not my plus one, you are"
"Something happened?"
"No. It's been very nice actually. She's easy to be around and it feels good. Working with Nina has been really positive for that matter. I thought I was never going to get over her or the anger I felt for her, especially the latter. But it has been really positive keeping all our interactions purely professional, I could see more to her than just the ex that fucked me up, you know?!"
"Oh, really? So why aren't you taking Agatha with you?"
"Because you saw how those afterparties go. I have my eyes on other things for this weekend." I smirked and we laughed about it.
"You and Nina are good now? I find that very hard to believe."
"I don't think we will have any conversations regarding personal life ever again. As I said, purely professional. But I do think it was a positive shift to see her as a colleague."
"I get it, it can be good to attach another persona to those situations and especially people who have some unwanted effect on us."
"Yeah, it's being nice"
"So you're really done with your boy toy?"
"I think so, yeah! I mean... I do miss the fun, but we were getting too intimate and that wasn't what I wanted."
"I know I had a bad reaction at first, but I do think he was good to you based on what you said. I just think that you should let the thought that maybe you only got so invested in him because now you feel like men are safer emotionally because you don't really get so involved simmer a little."
"I don't have to, I know that's the case. I could see myself having something serious with him I really liked him, but only because it would be emotionally safe. I don't think that's fair to him."
"Or you..."
"That's a mindset I'll have to save for later in my life."
"Love..."
"Don't even. I mean it" I said softly and she twitched her lips knowing she was agreeing to something she didn't like but had to.
*********
"Your girl over there!" I said to Amana as we arrived at the afterparty playfully pointing to the 'woman in green'. "Oh, shoot! She's in pink now."
"Oh, love, that's the last thing I'll be concerned about today. Now..." She adjusted the hems of her shirt. "If you excuse me." And just like that, she left to talk to the woman in pink.
I wasn't feeling the urge to get with anyone anymore, no one really caught my eyes. But what really caught my eyes was the fact that another woman was crossing the woman in pink to get with Amana. Now THAT was a show to watch.
As I was leaning back on the bar, drinking and watching the show, I looked away quickly to find Nina talking to some people who were also supervisors for the project we just presented, she looked like she was having fun and drinking a lot. I don't blame her, it was a very stressful month.
