I already had somehow accepted that our relationship had to end but this was a punch in the stomach. "Soobin", Ari shrieked and jumped back as she got aware of me. I just stared at her in disbelief. But it was too late. I had seen her kissing that guy, too long, too intense to believe any of her excuses. "We're over, Ari. We definitely are", I managed to get out and turned around, in a daze. I didn't even feel angry or anything, I felt nothing. I just wanted to leave. "Soobin, wait", I heard her voice behind me, but I just walked on, one foot in front of the other automatically.
Until I bumped into someone. Instinctively, I caught the person. I snapped out of my daze as my eyes meet hers. Two big, deep blue eyes looked at me. "Soobin?", Kasumi asked. I put her back on her feet without answering. She was breathing heavily. Did she run? "Soobin, why wouldn't you answer your phone, I tried calling you over and over again and-", she stopped. Something in her eyes changed, from rushed uneasiness to realization. And then sadness, such deep sadness that I felt even worse now. "You already found out about it?", she asked and even though I didn't understand how she could possibly know, I understood it could only be about Ari and... well, that other guy. I nodded. She sighed and gently took my arm. "Come on, let's get you home for now", she said. Nothing more. And I followed.
But then it kicked in. I felt it all at once suddenly: Despair, shame, betrayal, anger, sadness. I shook off her hand and turned around. I needed to do something, needed to let this out. It was as if some strange force took over my body. "Soobin, don't", Kasumi shouted after me, but I already was running back to Ari's door, banging on it with both fists. As soon as she opened, I pushed her aside and rushed in. "I'll talk to you later", my mouth said before I understood what I was about to do, "Where is he?" "Soobin, what do you think you're doing?", she said annoyingly arrogant. I grabbed her shoulders and shook her. "Where?", I asked again. "Hey, let go, you're hurting me", she complained, defiance but also slight fear in her eyes. "Soobin! Let her go already, this won't help anyone!", I heard another voice. Kasumi. I stopped for only a second, desperately trying to get a hold of myself, my own body again.
It was long enough though for her to pull me back. She was stronger than I had expected her to be. And I probably heavier than she thought because with a loud thump we both landed on the floor. It took me by surprise. I immediately shifted away from her, carefully lifting her head and looked at her worried. "You're okay?", I asked softly. She looked at me with a slightly mischievous grin and relief in her eyes. And that other thing I already had seen a few times without being able to label it. "There he is again", she said, "The Soobin I know." I blinked confused. She was right. MY worries about her made me instantly forget about the fury I had felt. "That doesn't answer my question", I gave back with a soft smile. "Well", she said and propped herself up, "You are heavier than I thought, but it was worth it."
Then she got up, positioned herself in front of Ari and the guy that had also come by now, probably to see what had caused the crashing sound. And before I realized what happened, she slapped Ari in the face, kicked the other one in the balls and then pulled me up on my feet. "Have a nice day", she said with an ironically sweet smile to the other two and walked out, gracefully as a Queen, dragging me behind. "Oh Soobin, love", she said outside with slightly scolding voice as she closed the door and turned to me, cupping my face, "What to do with you, huh?" I just looked at her cluelessly. Too much had happened in the last few minutes. She chuckled. "How about some tea first?", she suggested and started to drag me away again.
I still haven't understood everything as we sat down on my couch and I tried to progress it while she rumbled through my kitchen on her search for tea bags. Only a bit later, she returned and placed a cup of hot tea in front of me. "I hope you're fine with the tea you drank the first time I was here", she smiled softly. "You remember that?", I asked confused. She nodded, playing with the cord hanging from her tea bag. "Highly sensitive", she shrugged, "Or one of those other things. Introversion maybe. Can't remember. Something about how my brain works. Well, we don't have to know everything, do we?" I shook my head. This felt so surreal. Had all the stuff beforehand really happened? I wouldn't believe it if it wouldn't be for the bruise that became more and more evident on Kasumi's arm, right where I had fell on.
"How did you even know?", I asked. "This guy came into the flower shop and ordered a bouquet that we should deliver to Ari's workplace. I got confused as I realized that the address and the name are the same and it slowly dawned on me when I saw the card where only a 'See you today evening, my love' was written on. Well, and a big stupid heart drawn around it. It didn't even look anything close to good", she explained and winked at me before she conspirationally told me: "I might have forgotten to put it the rose in and she had gotten only the flowers that had been meant to play the supporting role." I appreciated that she tried to cheer me up, yet it didn't work that well and she realized. "Oh, Soobin", she sighed.
She watched me again, read me like an open book just the way she had from the first day on. I locked eyes with her. They held an ocean of emotions this time and I was surprised to find tears in them. "I am telling you if you cry now, I will too", she sulked jokingly and I realized that my eyes, too, were stinging from the tears filling them. I shrugged helplessly as they started to fall. "It's all good", she said softly and pulled me into a tight hug, calmingly stroking my back, "It's alright. Cry all you want. I'm here. And I will stay for as long as you need me."
