if everyone got a piece of the silence after it was broken
i’d like to get the piece that whispers hope into my hear
the silent plead for the world to tell me
without words
that it’s going to be okay.brett packed up his instrument and ran outside, ignoring the rain that was beginning to fall and the freezing temperature. the sky was blanketed with heavy, gray clouds that seemed to creep closer to the ground, throwing everything into darkness. since eddy had driven them to the concert hall, brett didn’t have his car. he was going to have to walk home.
i’m so fucking stupid! he yelled at himself. eddy doesn’t deserve me. i made him uncomfortable and wasted his time.
he kept running through the rain towards his apartment, even though he knew he was supposed to give a concert and that his house was really far away. tears burned at the back of his eyes as he remembered the feeling of eddy’s hand in his hair, laughing together, his hands around his neck, and his beautiful face. all he wanted was for eddy to be there to hold his hand and make the world seem brighter again.
it wasn’t long before the rain decided to be a jerk and fall harder, soaking brett everywhere, making him uncomfortable. he looked around for something to take refuge under. his eyes landed on the large oak tree at the entrance of the path that he and eddy had run down in the same weather a week ago.
that memory lightened his heart a bit, but it fell down again when he remembered reality. he ran under the tree and pulled his jacket tighter around him, his hands freezing so much that his joints hurt. he was probably going to get another cold. it had become significantly darker. brett never liked the dark.
he stood, freezing, and waited for the rain to cease, without eddy’s hand to keep him warm.

eddy panicked, trying multiple times to force the door open even though he already knew the outcome.
eddy forgot to tell brett that the dressing rooms were only unlockable on the outside. he slammed his fists on the door and let out a desperate groan, loathing himself for being so forgetful. checking his watch, he immediately regretted doing so when the minute hand hit the twelve. he was going to miss the performance.
brett was probably worried out of his mind, the conductor was probably angry, the orchestra would definitely be concerned, and the audience was confused. eddy's panic elevated and he scrambled around the room for a paperclip or something else to pick the lock, although he had no idea how to do something like that. he pounded on the door frantically, shouting for someone to open it and hoping that he was lucky enough that someone was wandering the hall.
he was definitely out of his mind. the concert had started ten minutes ago. no one would be backstage.
knock knock.
well. that person was backstage.
"hey!! it's eddy—open the door! please!" eddy cried. the door was opened and eddy sighed in relief, turning to thank whoever opened it.
it took a bit for eddy to realize that that person was short. really short. in fact, it was actually a kid who looked to be about ten years old.
"wh—what are you doing here? where are your parents?" eddy asked, bending down.
"got lost," the kid responded tersely.
he had probably been wandering backstage when he shouldn't be. that happened a lot, but eddy didn't mind. he was actually grateful that the kid was there to unlock the door.
