Weather crisp and students plentiful; pleasant as the day was for most, individual groups of students loitering outside gloating to friends and unfortunate victims over how they spent their holidays. That, or, just generally attempting to establish a kind of foothold in the complexities of college social hierarchy.

You hoped to do the same. Mold your image into something less... Of a background character. It was wistful thinking for someone who'd only been a tag-along, at best a viable alibi, to many classmates over the years. Yet something just felt different, you know? A sense of... Change, lingering on a passing wind. An optimistic feeling that, from here forwards, you'd become a brand new person! --

No. Wait. You had been held hostage by that Guitar circle for too long. Nevermind. All that Bright-eyed, hopeful, terrible singing must've worn down your sleep deprived sensibilities.

Though, still. That being said, College was definately a new beginning for you. Something to propell you forwards in whatever direction your little heart desired.

Hell, you'd even arrived early! Completely disregarding you were essentially kicked out, that was a major sign of your eagerness to start this semester.

There'd been only a few dreary faces when you'd toppled off the shuttle bus onto the quad, passing by like ships in the night (as in the lights were on but nobody had spiritually left their beds yet). Coffee both fresh and stale wafted round, clinging to your clothes it was that potent and promised to remain there till you remembered to do laundry later on in the month.

Ascending up to the second floor where your Dormmate had already established herself, successfully claiming dominion over the entire left side. No fuss, no muss.

Introducing herself with a gruff tone that contrasted her delicate hands, stating that her insomnia will be a problem for all those involved, promptly crawling her number on your palm before jumping ship.

It was, to say, very fast and awkward for you.

Interactions aside; room decorated in no time at all, stuck for anything else to do until needing to help your overzealous friend move in. A commitment made in front of his family, therefore non-negotiable.

Winding up in the company of soccer fanatics, launching into various debates where you simply questioned how this all steamrolled from you loitering at a vending machine. Apparently, simply uttering the vaguest of vague answers to complete strangers got you party invites.

Plus getting called 'Cool'. Which was, well, cool.

Thankfully Darth Vader interrupted before you accidental wound up digging a grave with your loose answers.

Leo insisted on having that as his ringtone. Didn't really question it.

He's been a friend since high school, or more like you'd been partnered for practically ever class and reluctance turned onto friendship. In the same classes, sharing a fondness of science fiction - what truly cemented this, at times, tedious friendship was a love of conspiracy theories.

Only he didn't get the memo that you'd, in fact, grown up and didn't really share that same childlike thrill at seeing 'genuine' Bigfoot footprints anymore.

Still, you were anything if loyal. Putting up with it, earning the gratitude of his Mama who treated you like family. Fed you like family. Gave you leftovers when you couldn't eat everything at family meals. She even made sure the whole Spitz clan signed a birthday card for you, every year, without fail.
