Can I kill myself, please? I'm stuck at the dinning table with my mum, her 'boyfriend' and Lizzie, my six year old sister. Chad, my mum's annoying boyfriend, has been trying to engage me into a proper conversation and I'm fighting to make sure it doesn't happen, by giving one word answers.
"So..Ellie, how's school going?"
"Good."
"That's nice...What's new?"
"Nothing much." He nodded, awkwardly and looked at my mum.
Yeah, he was hell bent on trying to get me to talk and my mother kept glaring at me, signaling me to be nice. I am being nice! I offered him more food so he'd shut up and eat. Doesn't this guy know it's bad manners to talk at the table. Gosh, what kind of animal have you brought home, mom?
"Umm..Lizzie! How's the kangaroo clan doing?" He turns to my little sister, who is trying so hard to finish with her dinner so she could leave.
"They're probably hopping away somewhere cool.." she says, not making eye with Chad. "Like I should be doing from this situation." She mumbled at the end, audible for all of us, when she obviously didn't want us to hear.
I chock on my pasta and grab the glass of water, drinking it to cool the burn. I wink at Lizzie while the glass is still on my lips. She smiles and winks back. Lizzie is smarter than most six year old's. She's more mature and wise, while other kids know how to make mud houses.
Our little exchange, obviously, did not go unnoticed as our mother was giving us a death glare. Lizzie and I look at each other and gulped. Oh, we were in trouble. So we took that as our cue and ate dinner in silence.

After two hours of absolute horror, Chad leaves. My mum called Lizzie and I down to the living room for "The Talk". She yapped about how much Chad is trying his best to get along with us and make us like him and what not and apparently we were making it hard for him to do that. Whaaat? No, I'd never do such a thing.
"Mum, come on. He annoying!" I say, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I'm sorry, young lady but if trying to be 'nice' is the new 'annoying' to you then yes, I'd say you be annoying too." She fires.
"He talks to much.." Lizzie says, pouting and crossing her arms as well.
"And you need to have your mouth cleaned with soap! You're six! Six years old's do not talk like that!" Lizzie's huffs and slouches in her seat. Our mum sighs and looks at us with a disappointed look, shaking her head.
"I honestly don't know what to do with you girls.." She says, putting her face in her hands and sitting down on the couch.
"Fine..We won't do it the next time-" I begin but she cuts me off.
"Oh, you sure won't be doing it again." She says, letting out a dry laugh. Lizzie and I look to each other in confusion.
"Lizzie, no TV for a month." She points to Lizzie, who looks like her world just collapsed. Lizzie did not protest, instead she huffed and marched up to her room, slamming the door shut.
"And no phone for you, Eliza Noel James..." She snatched my phone out of my hands, while I was too busy sympathizing over Lizzie.
"What the..?! Mum! You can't just do that!" I stand and look down on her. My fist clenched out of anger.
"I'm sorry, Ellie but you're gonna have to earn it back." She says, in a cool tone not guilty at all.
"Earn it?! What do you mean 'earn it'?!"
