Months went by, and Rowan was treated very special. He had started to get whatever he seemed to ask Annie for, at least, whatever he could signal that he'd wanted to her, and she let him watch television, even. Rowan tried his best to stream through channels, realizing that his snout worked better than his paws did at clicking small buttons on the remote.
"Rowan, you'll never believe what I saw on the news today! Studies are showing that dogs may have past lives they can remember, very rarely, but it is possible! Oh, and also, I saw you on the newspapers today while I was at the store. You were on the front page! All thanks to your dog shows! So many people would kill to own you. You are so impressive, especially when it comes to your human mind. I think you got that from your past life. People can call me crazy for talking to a dog, but man, you listen better than anyone else does. Plus, you're not even a dog! Ahah. You're a person behind that wagging tail and wet nose." Annie lovingly nudged her hand against his ears. He wagged his tail, letting out a cheerful sounding yip.
You wouldn't catch many dogs being treated as if they were humans in the modern day, nowadays, but Rowan is an exception. And, Annie has come to realize that. Rowan is her best friend, a doglike, listening, comforting, loving, human soul.
