I felt so weird as me and Nathan walked home. Knowing that it was the last we would ever do this, walk home to our flat together. I tried not to show how sad it made me, I didn't want Nathan to feel bad or anything.
"I can't believe, I lived with someone who wears socks to bed. For a month, that's got to be a record," Nathan said.
"Oh, shut up," I laughed nudging him.
I'll miss this, I thought.
When we reached the flat Nathan packed up his things and then we both went to the front door.
"Thank you, for letting me stay here while I found somewhere," Nathan said sincerely.
"My pleasure," I grinned.
"I...I had a great time," Nathan said, smiling softly.
"Me too."
He pulled me into a half hug with the hand that wasn't holding his bag and I wrapped both my arms around him. I felt him sigh and then drop his hand. I released him and opened the door for him.
"And hey, we were both wrong," I said.
"What?"
"You said one of us would end up getting hurt, well neither of us did," I forced a smile.
"Right," Nathan smiled back and then looked at the ground.
"Bye, Nathan." I said.
"Bye, Donut."
He looked at me and held eye contact for a moment, it almost looked like he was going to say something but instead he just smiled and walked away.
I stood in the doorway and watched him until he was out of sight. It had felt like a lie, that neither of us had gotten hurt but I wasn't sure why.
