The Princess War

Chapter 4

I picked up my cell phone and dialed the first number I could think of. When a sweet voice answered I quickly asked, "Why am I here?"

"Bridget, why in the world are you calling me? Someone might trace this call. Look I have to hang up." My older sister, Kara answered.

"KARA! You hang up and I will be on a plane, headed that way. Just answer my question."

She sighed. "Okay I will make this quick. You are over there because we want to keep you safe. We don't want anyone hurting our spark of hope. We need you to stay safe."

"I know that. Father will never let me forget. Is everyone okay? Is brother okay?" I asked.

"Yes, everyone is okay. Mother was kidnapped, but she is fine."

"What? How do you know she is fine?" I asked shocked.

"The men who took her, told us. They told us over the phone."

"Did they let you talk to her?" I asked trying to understand.

"They said she was out. They wouldn't let us talk to her."

I shook my head. "Kara, mother is dead. Those men shot her when the plane was leaving. I saw it with my own eyes. She's dead." I said almost choking on the word dead.

"That cannot be. Why did they lie to us?"

"They probably want to see if you would give them money for her. Whatever you do, do not give them any money. Don't even let them know that you know she is dead. Then they will know that you had contact with me. I was the only one who really saw. Don't tell father. He will be heart broken. Let's keep this between us, only. Just make sure they don't find out." I said before I hung up.

"Is everything okay?" I heard Kiel ask from my bedroom door.

I sat up on my bed and looked at him. "Yes, everything is fine."

He came in and sat on my couch. "This was my sister's idea. She designed this room for you. She would love to meet you, but she is in New York on a band trip or something."

I smiled. "I love it. So how old is your sister?"

"Fifteen, and smart. She has amazing talent. The whole reason she went on a band trip is because she won her state competition and is going to nationals."

"Wow, and she is only fifteen? What other talents does she have?"
