the reaping

QUINN GIDDINGS NEVER understood the 'Hunger Games'. Why they didn't just stop them at some point. Enough people had lost their lives due to the brutality the games could bring. 24 tributes, 12 districts, and only 1 survivor. That was the way of the games. Pure bloodshed. Innocent lives lost, families destroyed and a child becoming a murder.

It never made any sense. Even if Quinn was only fifteen years old, she was smart. She thought everything through, she could never grasp the concept of the Hunger Games.

It was always left with a 'why'? She hated watching the games every year, she watched her district die nearly every year.

The last time district 5 ever had a victor was the 52nd hunger games, a girl named Evelyn Young and Quinn was only a year old.

The brunette stared into the small mirror in front of her. She was wearing a short blue dress her mother had sewn her.

It was reaping day, the day they would pick the tributes for the 66th Hunger Games. Her name had only been in there 3 times, her odds were low compared to others.

She had a happy childhood, a good family. Her parents were absolutely in love with each other, and her older brother, Reese, was one of the sweetest people she knew.

"Quinn!" She could hear her brother yell from the other room. "Cmon, we don't wanna be late. The peacemakers will be upset."

Quinn sighed nervously as he walked out of her room and towards her family. Her mother had a soft smile on her face.

Reese was 18, this was his last reaping and his name had been in 6 times over the years. "You guys will be okay, alright?" There mother said softly as she hugged both her kids tightly.

"I know, mom." Quinn said quietly as her mother pulled away from them. The two turned to their father.

"We'll be at the reaping, and see you after alright?" He said.

Reese nodded and the two siblings walked out of their home and towards the plaza to register themselves.

Once they arrived, Reese turned to her. "I'll see you soon alright, be safe," he said before they had to separate. They always separated girls and guys.

Quinn joined one of the few lines of girls and got ready for registration. Once she got to the front line, the lady in front of her had her hand out. "Hand please," she ordered.

Quinn stuck her hand out and they pricked her finger, causing her to wince for a second, before walking towards the others.

They were in rows and rows, boys on one side and girls on the other. Quiet chatter could be heard and Quinn started to look for Allyson, her bestfriend.
