THE RETRIBUTION (The Enigma of Kenzie Williams)

CHAPTER ELEVEN

"Mrs. Oregano can I get a pack of nuts?" I said to our sweet-n-treats supervisor and almost immediately she tossed me two packs of pistachio and macadamia nuts.

I chose the pistachio nuts and returned the other. She declined and said:
"You can have them both."

"Thank you. I love you, ma'am."

"Love you too hon."

I turned and started to walk toward the vending machine.

I inserted a coin and pushed the E-6 button. The machine rattled and the choco bar fell. As I bent to pick it up, my phone started to ring in a Latin tune. I frowned as Kiara's name ran across the screen. I ignored it and quickly snatched the choco bar.

My phone tweeted again and it was a message from Kiara. It was short and simple:
"Kenz you need to see this"

I hesitated at first but, I soon found myself walking very fast. I started sweating profusely. I saw Kiara waving at me. I rand to her with so much speed, she fell under my weight.

"Babe, you need to calm down." She said when she got up.

"I saw your text. What do I need to see?" I asked quickly.

"Come with me." She said. She started to lead me toward the school's art pagoda.

We walked through a lot of doors. Then I started to hear a lot of voices.

We walked to a door and stopped. Then, I opened it. What I saw shocked me. I swear I'm not making this up. I saw Chase kissing Annie, whose clothes had almost come off.

"Chase!" I screamed.

I walked across the room and slapped Chase across the face. I pushed him to the wall and started hitting him.

"You sick animal," I screamed pulling on the collar of his T-shirt. "Why would you do this to me? I- - I- - I loved you so much. You lied to me. You told me...."

"And what if I did?" He said pulling my hands off his shirt. "What if I did? You started it"
"Me?" I said in disbelief.

"Yes, you. You started cheating on me with Randy."

"Randy?" Of all the people in the world to cheat on Chase with, Randy was the only option. I couldn't believe this.

"Oh, you think I didn't know? You pretend to hate him and then now and then you have to go to 'choir practice' with him. Wait do you think I'm stupid?"

My mouth flew open and instead of words, tears gushed out of my eyes.
"You know what? I don't even care anymore. It's over."

"Over?" I said finally.

"Yeah, it's over between us." He said and dragged Annie out with him. I closed my eyes and opened them again. The tears seemed hot now as the ground seemed to rush towards me.

Kiara's car raised dust as she drove breaking the speed limit to my house.

I curled my body into a half ball on the back seat. I had cried so much that my tear duct seemed to have run dry.

"Do you like my car?" She said when I refused to talk.

"Yeah," I said straightening up a little.

"Dad got it for me on my birthday."

"Are you even old enough to have a car?"

"No, dad couldn't wait." She said and tightened her fist around the steering wheel. She tightened them so much that her knuckles blanched.

"I can't believe I was so stupid. I was so dumb to think that someone would ever like me." I said staring coldly at the floor.

"Of course, you're not stupid."

"I should have believed you. It was all my fault and I'm so sorry. I was so happy that a guy that cute liked me and I thought you were a liar."

"No babe, it wasn't your fault. How were you supposed to know that Chase was a lying ass, cheating pig?"

"But still, I sh........"

"Don't beat yourself up thinking about it, okay?"

"Okay," I said and gave my first smile of the day.

The rain had started falling now as she maneuvered past a curve and into the next street.

The radio boomed with a wordless mixture of oboe, bassoon, congas, and glockenspiel. The tune was slow but, blissful.

I rested my head on the window's glass and soon, too soon I floated off into the next realm. The realm of sleep and peace.
