Chapter 25

Mathura, Dwapar Yuga

Sri Krishna was sitting in a big room in the royal palace of Mathura. In front of him, there was a game of dice placed on the ground. On the opposite side of him, his wife Satyabhama was sitting there, with two ivory made dices in her hand. She was moving them in her hand before throwing it. But they were not alone. Devi Rukmini was sitting there too. She was cutting the areca nuts with a golden cutter, and wrapping them with betel leaves. She took two of them and handed one to her husband. Sri Krishna smiled at her and took it. He put it in his mouth.

"Very nice, Rukmini."

Devi Rukmini just smiled. She took the other one and handed it to Satyabhama. She gracefully took it and put it in her mouth. Then she moved the dices for one last time and threw them on the board.

"Twelve! Now, it's my piece that will go to the centre." She giggled. Devi Rukmini smiled at her antics then placed another betel leaf in her mouth.

Sri Krishna was smiling too. He took the dices in his hand and threw them on the board. It drew an eight. He moved his piece eight squares forward. His piece went inside the centre.

"Aryaputra, can I ask you something?" Devi Rukmini spoke in a low voice.

"You want to know that why are we staying here, and not reaching out towards Dwarka, right."

Devi Rukmini nodded with a shy smile. Even Devi Satyabhama stood straight.

Sri Krishna closed his eyes. In his mind, he could see the turbulent time which was coming towards them.

"The whole Aryavart is going towards an interesting phase of time. Hastinapur will be the centre of the current political situation in Aryavart. So, I have to stay close for sometimes. There was another reason why I am staying here...one which is connected to you, Satyabhama."

"What is it, Aryaputra?" Devi Satyabhama curiously asked. But Sri Krishna did not answer her, just a mysterious smile played in his lips. Devi Satyabhama knew her husband very well. Now Sri Krishna would not say anything in this matter. She decided not to ask anything to him now.

Suddenly, three people entered the room. Balrama, along with his wife Revti and sister Subhadra walked together in there.

"Pranipat Dau.", Sri Krishna stood up. Balrama blessed him and sat down. Revti and Subhadra sat beside him.

"Kanha, we left Hastinapur three days ago, and we reached Mathura just yesterday. But now, tell me the truth, why are we staying here, and not starting our journey towards Dwarka? Now, don't get me wrong, I love to spend my time here...."

"Dau...have you heard the good news yet? Rajkumar Duryodhana had won the swyamvar of the Rajkumari of Kalinga. He defeated powerful Maharathis like Kichaka, maharaja Shalya and Rajkumar Rukmi in mace fighting."

"Really?" Balrama was literally glowing with pride, "I know it. I know that he is a talented fighter indeed. He made me proud as a teacher. Revti, bring me a glass of finest wine. This is time to celebrate."

"But Dau, don't you think that your favourite student should be here with his newlywed wife? After all, they should have a share of the joy that you are feeling?"
