Chapter 38
Mathura, Dwapar Yuga
Arjun POV (continues)
The calm and soothing presence of Madhav was enough for me to calm my turbulent mind. I saw his eyes looking at everywhere, but when they fall on my cousin hugging the unconscious form of his wife, they became hard in that instant.
"You three get the quilts from the chariot and place them under that banyan tree." He looked at the soldiers behind us and pointed at a huge banyan tree in the east, "Partha, Subhadra, come with me. We do not have time to lose."
The three of us ran towards them. They were sitting closer to the tree, where the soldiers already put down the quilt on the ground.
"Get me the medical bag of the vaidya. Hurry up.", Madhav commanded. The soldiers, who were all standing beside us like they had lost their mind, now suddenly woke up with a new force of life. Two of them went to the bloody corpse of the vaidya, and took up his bag. The others gathered themselves and took their positions with weapons.
"Rajkumar, I need you to place her on the quilts. Quick, we don't have much time." Madhav was standing in front of my cousin. Duryodhana was still sitting on the ground, chanting the mantra, while holding his wife...my bhabishri's body in his hands. I felt that the words didn't enter into his ear. Madhav then slowly placed his right hand on his shoulders. I didn't know what magical power was there in his hand, but as his hand contacted with my cousin's shoulder, it seemed like he woke up from some sort of trance. He looked at Madhav with his angry red eyes. His facial expression was calm, but we all knew that this was the calmness before a raging thunderstorm. His chanting didn't stop, though.
"Rajkumar, place her on the quilts. Partha, go and start a fire. Subhadra, get the medical box of Devapriya."
Duryodhana slowly placed his wife on the quilt. Some soldiers quickly gathered some firewood and I started a fire with the help of an 'Agneyastra." Subhadra searched the chariot and found Bhabishri's medical box. Madhav quickly took out some needle like tools, a small knife, some herbs, some crystals and a mortar and pestle. Then he took out a large silver bowl.
"Partha, fill the bowl with water."
I used a 'Varunastra' to fill the bowl. Madhav took out the mortar and placed the herbs and crystals in it. Then he quickly mixed and grinded them by using the pestle. Then he mixed the greenish white mixture in the water. Then he took out a small silver bottle from bhabishri's medical box, which had a red liquid inside it. He quickly mixed three drops of that red liquid in the mixture.
"Rajkumar, heat the needles in the fire." He gave my cousin the needle like tools. Duryodhana took them, and ran towards the fire. He quickly heated them in the fire, and came back. Madhav took them, and then he placed the pointed tips in the mixture. Then he came to Bhabishri, and checked her pulse. His facial expression became grave. He placed his right hand on her stomach.
His facial expression changed again. It felt like he was hurting from inside.
"Her spinal cord is shattered into pieces. She needs surgery. Only Nakul and Sahdeva can perform it. But..."
I saw two drops of tear formed in his eyes.
"What is it, Madhav?"
"She has a miscarriage, Partha. Her unborn child is no more."
His words shattered my heart. My hands started trembling. I grabbed my bow tightly to prevent him falling down on the ground. Beside me, Subhadra let out a cry. She was shaking like a leaf. I quickly grabbed her hand and pulled her towards me. Then suddenly, I felt something changed in the environment. An eerie silence engulfed the environment. It took me a moment to understand what was happening.
The cause of the silence was my cousin who stopped chanting the mantra. I slowly turned at him. He was standing there like a rock. But then I saw something that sent a chill in my body.
My cousin was standing there, but, for a very small moment, I saw a dark aura engulfed his body. His eyes became red, snake like and I saw two sharp fangs in his mouth. But, in the next moment, his body became normal.
I was still looking at him, when I felt Subhadra pushing me slightly. I slowly turned my head to Madhav, hoping that his divine presence could cleanse my mind from that abomination I just witnessed.
"Bhratashri, do something.", Subhadra spoke between her cries. Madhav looked at us, and heaved a sad sigh.
"A broken bone from her spinal cord pierced the embryo in her womb. I can still save her, by stabling her condition so that she can reach Hastinapur for her surgery. There, Nakul and Sahdeva can perform the surgery on her, and they can join the broken pieces."
Then he picked up the needles from the mixture, and started piercing them in multiple places. Then his fingers slowly started pressing multiple places in her unconscious form. Slowly, I saw the traces of life returning back in her body. Vasudev was still applying soft pressure in specific points in her body, and the paleness was replacing by a little bit of colour. Her close eyelids were slowly flickering.
"Look Aryaputra, her fingers were moving.", Subhadra spoke in a soft voice, pointing at her right hand. She was right. Slowly, I could see the traces of life returning back in her body.
"Partha, we need thin, long pieces of wood. Get me at least thirty pieces, and tie them with thin strip of clothes. We need that to tie them up in her body. Go, quick. Rajkumar, come here, held her hand."
I saw my cousin walking slowly. He slowly sat beside Madhav, and took her right hand in his. I turned back towards the soldiers, but before I could say anything, I heard my cousin's voice.
"You are coming back with me, Priya, you hear that? You are coming with me, or Mahadev ki saugandh, I will burn the whole Aryavart. I, Jayant Roy, am promising you that."
Jayant Roy?
I slowly turned my head, only to find my eyes looking directly at two deep eyes. Those deep eyes were directly looking at me, forbidding me to say anything.
"Partha, I told you something. Go, now."
Heartbreaking, isn't it? Such is life.
Marmas are vital energy centres or subtle energy fields in human body. They are important aspects in yogic practices with which ayurveda are closely connected. Marmas are related to the 7 Chakras and 14 Nadis emphasised in yogic practices. During marma therapy, an extremely light stimulation of points on the body is applied by hand. This gets rid of the obstruction from that vital point and provides physical and psychological recreation and potency. Marma therapy is a dominant process and a therapy that works with these subtle and responsive liveliness points to unlock the energy outlets in the body are called Srostas. These points when gently pressed on the skin can stimulate a chain of positive events. Marma therapy contributes to increase or recharge physical, mental, and spiritual energies.
