A/N: AGHHH THIS BOOK IS SO DEAD BC OF SCHOOL IM SORRY EVERYTHING IS IN PROGRESS

"Mother, can I go play outside?" Hiachi asked, looking towards Futaomote, who was packing all her things away into a drawer. She turned towards her daughter, and smiled softly. "Of course dear, just make sure nobody sees you and you are back before dark, I don't want those children hurting you again." She answered, a flicker of worry lingering in her voice, as she closed her drawer. Hiachi nodded quickly and ran out the door with Shaku, stumbling slightly as she made her way to behind the houses, where nobody was usually.

"Shaku, what do you want to play today?" Hiachi said to her doll, beaming. Shaku's dark hair flowed in the wind in a mesmerising way, her porcelain face glimmering in the early morning sunlight, as Hiachi stared at her with anticipation. "Oh Shaku, I do wish you were real, you would be the best! It's a shame you can't actually play with me." Hiachi sighed, lying down on the grass. Suddenly, she heard a rustle from the bushes behind her.

She trembled, picking Shaku up and holding her close, fearing it was one of the children who had been bullying her and her mother. "Excuse me, is anybody there? Please tell me!" She stuttered, panicking and taking a step backwards. She then heard a thump, prompting her to look around for the cause of the sound. The quiet breathing she heard started to scare her, and she hugged Shaku tighter.

Hiachi tried to run away, but she tripped and fell backwards, making her wince in pain. However, she saw a child about her age, lying face first on the ground.

"Hello? Are you alright?" She asked, worried. She crouched onto the ground and held out her hand to help you up. You turned to face her and smiled. "Yeah I am, don't worry!" You assured her, taking her hand as she pulled you up. Shaku was lying on the ground, not making a single noise, the quiet sound of her hair making a subtle rustle.

"What brings you here?" Hiachi asked you, confused on why you would be here, brushing her hair out of her face. You laughed, finding it amusing how she cared about you. "Me? The other children in the village don't want to play with me, so I came over here instead. Say, do you want to be friends?" You questioned, suddenly trusting Hiachi. She stared at you in a state of confusion.

"A friend? What's that?" She asked, clearly feeling embarrased, while she picked up Shaku.

"Oh! You don't know? Well, I didn't know until a few days ago too, so I can't really talk." You giggled, trying to not sound odd. " Anyway, a friend is when you are sort of family with someone, without actually being related. You trust each other, play with each other, talk to each other. And you both have a mutual affection." You explained, trying to put it in words you'd understand yourself. Hiachi nodded slowly, processing everything you just said. Her expression slowly turned into a happy one.

"Alright. So, let's be friends then! Here, you can play with Shaku, go on!" She grinned, offering her doll to you. You widened your eyes, wondering why she wanted to be friends, and already trusted you. "Y-you, actually want to be friends with me?" You gasped, looking at her, as you didn't take Shaku. Hiachi seemed confused as well, finding it hard to believe she wouldn't want to be friends with you. "I suppose I could ask you the same thing, but, of course I do! I mean, the only friend I've ever had was Shaku, and having a real friend would be so amazing.." She said, trailing off slowly, as she attempted to give you Shaku again. This time you took her doll, smiling softly.

"I can already tell we are going to be the best of friends."
