Silence filled the room as Ameri did not know what the next move was. She did not know that Y/N would agree and follow her without complaints and questions. As the clock ticks by and as Y/N sips the tea that she offered, she keeps thinking about how she would proceed to her listening as her guest translates the books for her.
The loud clank made by the collision of the teacup and saucer of her guest helped her come back to her senses. She thought that Y/N was annoyed as she came here to talk about the book and not have a very awkward and tension-filled teatime with her.
"Um—"
"No, it's okay, Ameri-san. No need to be nervous as I know why you called me over. Your reasons are beyond—it's not just about the book itself, yes?"
"Yes. It seemed weird that you know how to read this. Especially this book or series is not from here. That is why I am suspicious of what you are."
Ameri watched her guest look at the side and seemed to be thinking deeply about something while tapping her finger slowly on the table. She seemed nervous about what would happen when Y/N opened her mouth. Perhaps she put her on a hard spot—after all, she was too direct. She did not once mention the book, and with that, it seemed that the book was just the cover to reveal her real motive later.
While waiting for her guest's response, she noticed that her guest's bracelet had been glowing. It all started when she asked if she could borrow her time to talk about the book. Perhaps it was some sort of a mana controller or was just simply a fancy bracelet.
"Ameri-san."
"Ye-Yes?"
She felt her face become red—perhaps it was out of nervousness, or perhaps it was of how pretty Y/N is, especially when she smiles.
"Your suspicions about me are certainly valid. I am aware that a person like you will not just conclude something without being certain—especially this book," Y/N paused, grabbed the book, and waved it gently to emphasize the biggest clue Ameri-san had before continuing, "is your biggest clue. You connected the dots—one, that this book is from the human world, and only them know this language, and two, which is me, who were able to understand the language with such ease. So please, do not be nervous and tell me directly what you want to say."
She placed the book down, crossed her arms on the table, and waited for Ameri's response. She stopped her habit of tapping on the table to prevent making Ameri nervous. The latter was still nervous but gathered the courage to speak up about what she wanted to say.
"I, uh, I just... I just wanted to ask for help to-to translate this, please! I... while I can enjoy this book through looking at the characters' faces, but I think- I think it is really better if I can understand what is happening."
Though it was stated that she was able to gather the courage to speak up about her real motives, she can't help but stutter and close her eyes out of nervousness and embarrassment. She did not know why she was afraid of the reaction and the response of the person she was talking to, but she paid no heed and only waited for Y/N's response.
"Well... You picked the right person."
She opened her eyes and slowly looked up to see Y/N's face.
She was smiling—amused even. That made Ameri blush more if she still could.
"You pick the right person to help you translate because not only I can understand this, but I am also one of the people who helped on the series' production—"
"Wait-Wait, really?! You're one of the people who help create this story?"
Ameri, out of excitement at the latter's revealed information about herself, held the mentioned hands and looked at her with sparkling eyes. She came back to her senses when she heard Y/N laugh. She then apologized for her rude behavior and the impulsive things she had said ever since they started talking.
"Oh, don't worry. I find you really cute, Ameri-san. Anyway, let me confirm your suspicions. I WAS, in fact, human and also helped on this series' production. Stressing was, as you can see, I have wings."
Y/N then turned a bit to let Ameri see her wings. She then went back to her position and continued talking.
"Well, as you may know—or not, Transcendents like my grandmother can pass their powers or 'blood' to anyone they think they deserve it. Since my father was a dumbass, my mother was an expensive whore, and both make such a bad team, she chose me—Oh, pardon for my slip of the tongue. It is the truth, but I do not care about them. I am just happy that I could experience happiness before dying."
"Ah, I am sorry for making you bring up your past."
"Please, don't worry, Ameri-san. My past is nothing now. I am already busy learning about how great life is with the people I met here, so such thoughts do pop up sometimes, but I don't really entertain them. Anyway, may I see how many volumes you have?"
"Of course. I will show you the way."
She wanted to thank Y/N for smoothly changing the topic, but at the same time, she still wanted to apologize for making her remember her bad past, despite saying that it was okay. She feels really dumb and embarrassed as ever since she met and talked to Y/N, her usual strict and cold demeanor has been left to dust and become this very klutzy demon.
Ameri watched Y/N closely inspect the books that were neatly arranged. Instead of starting at first, she immediately went to the middle as the series had 200+ volumes; it would obviously take a lot of time to inspect everything. After a while, she saw Y/N stand up after inspecting the bottom shelf.
"Oh my, you got all the volumes. Took me back, haha. I hope they are all alright. Anyway, it is getting late, and I am sure that Gramps and Opera-san are concerned, so would it be okay if I help you translate the series next time we are both free?"
"Of course! I apologize for taking your time too much."
"Oh, please. I am glad that you showed me all of these volumes, Ameri-san. Knowing someone wanted to read your work feels great. Thank you so much for the opportunity to see a glimpse of my old life—the good parts, don't worry."
"I also want to thank you for helping me to understand the real story finally."
"Of course, of course. Though, I think we will have to start next month because of the Cannonball Ex."
"Ah... you're right..."
Y/N saw how her ears faced down, clearly showing disappointment. As Y/N was fond of cats,
"Ameri-san."
"...Yes?"
"...May you please lower your head for a bit?"
Though Ameri was a bit confused about Y/N's request, she followed as payment and an apology.
"Please forgive me for what I am about to do."
She then started to pat Ameri's head, making the mentioned come in a state of shock.
"Ah, I do apologize for my impulsive behavior. I am really fond of cats, you see. I'll be taking my leave then. I really enjoyed our conversation today, Ameri-san. Please be careful on your way back."
"You-you too."
Y/N hurriedly left to make sure she did not receive repercussions for what she did to the President of her school, leaving the mentioned blushing furiously.
