Chapter 14: Locked up

you were sitting in your cell, bored as fuck, when the door opened and Steve walked in. "ready to talk?" he asked. "i have nothing to say to you" you said back, putting on your heartless front. you couldn't believe you let that asshole in. "i just want to know what's going on, why are you killing those agents" he asks. rage is rising up inside you, but you expression stays emotionless "i can tell you again that i have nothing to do with that, but you won't believe me anyway. but go ahead leave me here. you will see i'm not the one doing this when he comes to kill all of you" you say coldly, like you didn't care. somewhere you did care, but you didn't show him that, no you showed him enough of your weakness and look where that got you, locked up and put away. 

"kage" he tries but you turn away. "kage, look at me!" he yelled angry. a shiver run over your spine, his anger still scared you, and he seemed to notice. "i'm not gonna hurt you Kage" he says in a softer voice now. "but how can i believe you have nothing to do with this when i keep finding you next to their dead bodies. you have to admit that that is suspicious right" he said calmly. he was right, i would look suspicious, was that Zemo's plan all along to have them think you did it, so he had free game. "nothing i will say can change your mind about it" you say, still with your back facing him. "i can tell you 100 times i don't have anything to do with this. but you won't believe me" you say. 

"but you have something to do with this, they want something from you, so tell me what it is so we can figure out how to fix this" he says calmly. "you know i can't tell you that" you say a little frustration in your voice. "why can't you tell me, is it to protect the future or yourself?" he asks his tone judging like he already knew the answer to it. "i just can't tell you" you tell him. "why not, people are dying Kage. and i know you don't care about them but i do!" he says frustrated "and i'm gonna try everything i can to make sure they won't die". "you can't" you whisper. "so tell me" he says again. "i can't Rogers!" you yell as you turn around to look at him "i can't!". "i knew it" he says "i fucking knew you weren't what you looked like. i just hate i was wrong about you. i thought you were actually here to help" he says before he walks out. "no wait ROGERS!" you yell behind him, but he's gone.

later that day the door opens again and Natasha walks in, with a plate of food. "thought you would be hungry" she says handing you the food as she sits down before your cell. "what's going on Kage?" she asks you, genuinely sounding worried about you. "did Rogers send you" you say irritated. "no he actually asked me to not talk to you" she says. "oh" you say believing her. "i'm sorry for all of this, but we just need to be careful with who we trust right now" she says. "and you don't trust me" you say, actually hurt at the comment. "i trust you Kage" she says "it's just, you don't share things, and that just makes you harder to trust i guess". "Nat i just.." you say, feeling tears well up in your eyes. "i know, i know you didn't kill them, but we need to know what your whole deal is with Zemo" she says. "i can't tell you that" you say now fully crying. 

"why can't you tell us?" Natasha asks. "because.....because you're gonna hate me" you say, tears streaming down your face. "i, i really can't tell you what it is nat. i just know we need to stop Zemo before..." you say not finishing your sentence. "before what?" Natasha asks. "before he gets what he wants. because i promise you Nat, it's safer in my hands than his" you say, almost panicking now. you couldn't do anything out of this cell, you needed to get out. "okay Kage calm down" she says as she sees you freak out. "Nat i need to get out of here " you say as your panic takes over. "Kage, listen to me breathe" Natasha says, looking at you worried. "i...i can't" you say trying to catch your breath. "can't ... br-breathe" you choke out.
