"So, scouts tomorrow, huh?" Bertolt said in his usual melancholy hum. You had been back about a week, and things had pretty much gone back to normal. Well, as normal as things got.

"Yeah," Reiner responded. "Scary stuff"

The night before, we picked our regiments. Bertolt, Reiner, and I chose scouts as we originally intended, along with the majority of our cadet group, which was a shock. Even Jean joined a man set on luxury in the interior. He had said something about Eren, which I still don't understand the whole titan situation. He left to the scouts early, so I haven't had a chance to ask him, and no one else seems to know much of anything. It's still maddening to think about a human turning into a titan? Was he even human? If he can turn into a titan, then maybe me recognising the colossal eyes wasn't such a crazy thing. I heard that Eren's titan vaguely resembled him. Could Bertolt.. No. Crazy. You know Bertolt, he's not a killer. You trust him.

Pulling yourself out of your head, you took in the scenery. This was to be your last night at the cadet training grounds. The last night of thin scratchy blankets, and water worn wooden walls. Well, these walls at least, you imagine the scouts' grounds would be just as dilapidated. Still, you would miss it. "Heyyyyy guyyyssss," Connie said, bursting into the dorm carrying a large glass bottle and a deck of cards. "Guess who found contraband in Shadis's cabinnn!!!!" He yelled a little too loud. "I figured since it's our last night here, we could have some fun." He said, settling himself on the ground in the middle of the dorm. Others followed him, creating a circle around him. Reiner snickered a bit, "Well, let's go." He said, grabbing your hand and leading you down.

"Alright, what should we play first?" Connie said once everyone was seated in a large circle.

Everyone played various card games for a bit, passing around the bottle slowly emptying it. You could feel a buzz running through you, the heat and drowsiness of liquor taking over your thoughts and body. It was nice.

"I'm bored with card games." Sasha whined after a third round of poker.

"Well then, what do you suggest we play, Sasha" Jean snapped back with an attitude and a sluggish voice.

"Uhhhhhhhhhh." she hummed drunkenly. "Truth or dare!"

"Alright, I dare you to never eat potatoes ever again, potato girl." He said with a snicker. The group stifled a laugh.

"OH, COME ON, I THOUGHT WE WERE OVER THIS! STOP CALLING ME POTATO GIRL!" she cried.

"Fine, I'll play seriously." Jean said, sobering up slightly, "Y/n."

Your head perked up at your name. You had only half been paying attention.

"I dare you..... Uhmm..." he mulled

"To kiss Reiner!" Connie piped. A blush spread against your face as you processed his words. "Uh what." you sputtered. "Come on, everyone knows you like each other." Connie slurred.

"Yeah, I'll go with that. Your dare is to kiss Reiner." Jean nodded proudly, as if he had come up with the dare himself.

You were speechless and embarrassed. Looking over at Reiner, he seemed to be in the same position as you, completely red in the face. He looked up from the ground to meet your eyes. "I. uh." You cleared your throat. Alright, you decided. A dare's a dare. There's no harm in a single kiss. Plus, you couldn't say you didn't want to.

"Come on guys, this is so childish." Reiner said, standing up and leaving the circle. His tone wasn't serious, but there was a hint of struggle in it.

"Yeah." You chuckled a bit at the idea of kissing him on a dare, and that you seriously considered it for a second. Must be the alcohol.

"Ugh fine, then Connie, I dare you to do a back flip." Jean said. With that, the group went back to their mindless chatter and laughing, and Reiner went outside.

You pushed yourself up, the weight of your body against the buzz making you stumble a bit. After finding your ground, you went after Reiner. Pushing open the doors, you felt a gust of brisk night air, and drops of cold water prickling your face. It was raining. Scanning the area, you saw him leaning against the cabin in the rain, dozing a bit.

"Hey" you said softly as not to startle him, he didn't seem to notice you walking up.

"Hey sunshine." He said with a smile. The smile he always had. Though his lips tugged upwards for the appearance of welcoming joy, his eyes were sad and slightly hollowed. Like he didn't sleep well, he seemed tired. You really couldn't tell this smile from his genuine smile unless you'd seen it. And though it was rare, you had seen his real smile before, you knew the difference. You knew him.

"They're such children." He chuckled after a moment of silence.

"Yeah." You responded. More silence. Maybe it was the buzz, maybe it was something else, but before thinking, words came through your throat and out your mouth.

"We could. If you wanted to." You said. "What?" He responded, looking down at you for the first time in the conversation. Internally you panicked. What the hell were you thinking.

"Uhm, kiss I mean." You said nervously. He was silent. You were silent. Tension rang through the air, only broken by the spattering of rain against the dirt and wood of the training grounds. He just looked at you.

"I can't." he said, still maintaining eye contact. He seemed to want to, though.

"Why not." You said you didn't know why you were pushing it, you didn't even know if this was what you wanted. "I'm not a good person, y/n"

"You say that, and yet I can't see any bad in you, Reiner." You said, and you meant it, truly. He got closer, his eyes flitted from your eyes, to your lips, and back to your eyes.

"You're making this so hard for me y/n, please. You don't want me." he said, looking back into the rain.

"What if I do?" You insisted.

"You have no idea what you're talking about." He said with a hint of anger, turning to face you completely now.

"So tell me. Let me in." You said, placing your hand on his forearm.

He took a breath, almost as if to say something, then sighed.

"I want to y/n, truly." He placed a hand on your cheek and gently set his lips to your forehead. They were soft, and his scent enveloped you. Something between grass, sweat, and pine.

"Go inside, you're drunk."

"Reiner, pleas-"

"Go inside y/n." With that, he walked off towards the mess hall. You didn't follow him. It was cold, you were soaked from the rain, and you figured you had pushed him enough.
