Strange sighs, watching his trembling hands. He supposes he should gather up the strength he can and thank the billionaire for his thoughtfulness. In fact, he doesn’t know why they’re both acting like this. Like they’re some sort of lovers who found that one of them was talking to their ex. Just as he goes to stand, the door slides open, revealing the short man. It’s no secret that Tony Stark is handsome, Stark himself should know since he’s been in magazines his entire life. “Strange. Good to see you’re out and about.” The man greets, his tone clipped. Stephen nods, curling and uncurling his hand, a habit he’s had since his surgeries. He always hates cold weather, because it leaves his hands aching and their tremors are worse. Feeling self-conscious for some absurd reason, he folds his hands behind his back.
“Where is my ring?” He asks, his tone just as cold as it was the first time he saw Anthony. The man hums thoughtfully, his eyes skimming around the room. “, I feel like I should be getting a thank you. Since you know, I saved your life and all.” The billionaire says casually before brown settles on crystal blue and the tension in the room rises. “Or are you so big and grand that you don’t do simple thank you’s?” The sorcerer rolls his eyes. “Thank you. Now may I please have my rings?”
“You don’t remember, do you?”
“Remember what?” Stephen asks in his confusion, his eyebrows scrunched together as his lips part slightly. Tony breathes out and waves his hand in dismissal.
“Don’t worry about it.” He says non-committedly. Stephen sighs impatiently, looking at the billionaire pointedly. “Oh right. Follow me. I kept them in my lab for, you know, safety reasons.” Tony starts, Stephen on his feet. “And I must say, it is very interesting on how it works, I mean the readings i’ve got-” Tony gets cut off when he finds himself pinned to the wall, Stephen’s icy cold gaze threatening to freeze Tony inside out. “You did what? What’d you do with it!?”
“A scan!” Tony mutters, his wide eyes watching Stephen’s every move. “As much as I love the sexual tension we’ve got going on and all, I’m not a fan of being pinned.” Stephen gathers himself, inhales and then lets go with a soft exhale through his mouth. “Don’t worry, Strange. I won’t expose anything that may be classified, in fact, I scanned it to try and find out why it sent you here.” Tony explains, patting himself down and flattening his suit before fixing his tie.
“Here look.” He says, swiftly making his way over to the lab, and if Stephen notices the sudden space between them, he doesn’t say anything.
Tony drops the ring into Strange’s hand while looking somewhere else. “Try and not crash into my lab next time, yeah?” Before Stephen gets the chance to say anything, the billionaire is walking away.
Stephen watches him, a sudden sinking feeling in his gut that screams for him to do something. But to do what?
Strange doesn’t know and the Doctor doesn’t both trying to waste time and energy on the feeling before he slips on the ring, imagines the place where he wants to go and rotates his arm in a clockwise motion until sparks of fiery orange flicker to life before it opens, the sanctuary in view. He steps through, unknowing to the lingering brown eyes that watch him inquisitively.
