Christmas had gone by in a blur and Hogwarts was now in a new year, 1995, almost nearing the end of January. Theo and Cassie sat in the far corner of the library because he had dragged her to the library to finish some Potions homework.
"Okay, I'm done," Cassie said, breathing out as she tilted her head backward before shoving the paper into her bag. "I'm heading out,"
"Alright, see you later," Theo muttered, too focused on his essay to pay any attention.
As Cassie stepped out of the library, she walked down the corridor, and as soon as she made a turn, she ran straight into someone.
"Sorry," The person muttered.
"Why is it when someone bumps into me, it's always you?" Cassie shook her head, amused.
"Oh, it's you, Cass- Sorry. Er, Malfoy," Harry stammered as he slowly looked at Cassie who raised her eyebrows for him to continue. "I think I found out how to crack the egg's clue,"
Cassie gave him a look to continue.
"He told me to put it.... underwater?" Harry furrowed his eyebrows, unsure of himself.
Cassie thought for a while before nodding. "Yea, that would make sense,"
"It would?"
"It would," Cassie repeated, nodding slowly. "If the egg can't be opened on land, open it underwater? Yea, it's just common sense, don't know why I didn't think about it before,"
Harry made a face, still confused as ever before Cassie spoke up again. "Who told you about it?"
"Cedric Diggory,"
"But why would he do that? From what I know, you guys aren't friends or anything," Cassie frowned.
"I don't know," Harry shrugged. "Said he wanted to repay me for telling him about the dragons,"
Cassie nodded in understanding before adding. "Do tell me what the egg said,"
Before Harry could reply, Pansy's voice rang through the corridor.
"Cass!"
At the sound of Pansy's voice, Harry gave Cassie a quick goodbye for turning around and fleeing.
"Hey, I've been looking everywhere for you," Pansy spoke, out of breath before narrowing her eyes. "What were you doing with Potter?"
"Nothing, we just bumped into each other," Cassie lied smoothly, the guilt eating her up inside. She knew one day, she'd have to tell her friends but for now, she'll just wait.
Pansy nodded before taking Cassie's arm and dragging her. "Come on, I got these really cute matching outfits for our cats,"
Cassie looked at Pansy, horrified. The last time she got matching outfits for their cats, well, let's just say it didn't look really pretty.
---
A week had gone by after the mess that went down in the Slytherin dorms after Pansy had tried to put on these matching cat clothes and it had been a week since Cassie's last encounter with Harry happened and Cassie's mind was itching to find out what had happened with the egg. Unfortunately for Cassie, Harry was nowhere to be found, every time she spotted him, he would always be with his friends, there was never the right time. The rest of the day went by as usual with Cassie attending her classes and spending time with her friends and before she knew it, the day had been over. After a little girls-talk with Daphne and Pansy, they all went to their separate beds. Cassie couldn't sleep at all, no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't get herself to feel drowsy, it made her more awake, actually. Deciding that making herself sleep was no good, she did what she'd usually do, go for a walk in the middle of the night, way past curfew.
Slowly and quietly, she slipped out of her bed, quickly putting on her robes as she walked into the common room and out to the dungeons. It was quiet, the dungeons were dark and the only source of light was the faint glow that sat on top of her wand. As she made her way out of the dungeons and into the halls where it was less lonely with the sound of crickets chirping and the dimly lit corridors. As Cassie walked further on, she stepped on something sharp and let out a yelp. She stared at her feet, only then realizing she forgot to put her shoes on.
"What the heck," Cassie muttered to herself. Had she really been walking barefoot this entire time? Rolling her eyes at herself, Cassie walked forth, deciding that going back was useless, plus being barefooted while walking around a large castle in the middle of the night wasn't that bad. It took Cassie a few turns around corridors to run straight into someone and by someone, she meant Harry fucking Potter.
"What the bloody hell are you doing here?" Cassie snapped, smoothing out her robes that didn't need any smoothing.
"What are you doing here?" Harry asked slowly, hiding the parchment paper he was holding behind his back.
"I asked first," Cassie quipped without missing a beat.
"And I asked second," Harry replied, a ghost of a smirk making its way up to his lips.
"I... That's my line-"
"Anyway," Harry quickly cut Cassie off before walking off, Cassie followed him shortly after. "I think the next task has something to do with the Black Lake."
Cassie's ears perked up at this. "The Black Lake?"
Harry nodded.
"What on earth will you guys be doing down there?"
"Dunno," Harry shrugged.
"What else did the egg say?" Cassie asked Harry who tried to think.
"Uh, I can't really remember the whole thing,"
Cassie rolled her eyes which Harry noticed. "Hey! You can't expect me to remember a whole song that I had to listen to underwater,"
"Whatever," Cassie muttered. "We've still got plenty of time, but for now, I think I'm going back, you should too,"
Harry nodded, giving Cassie a quick goodbye as they both went their separate ways.
