Ajinke's POV;
I arrive at the palace, and I feel my heart drop into my stomach. The palace is disoriented and in chaos. There's fire burning in different places.
I freeze as everything before me suddenly begins to morph into the vision I've been having.
There's a fire burning inside the palace. Where is the royal family? Where is Adebiyi? I'm about to rush to the palace when,
"Run! Run! " I hear a maid scream. As maids try to escape the burning maid's quarters. The thatched ceiling is in flames and is falling.
"Help! Help! "A maid screams as she falls, but others keep running past her, without stopping. I'm about to rush to her when I hear someone scream from the other side of the bushes behind me.
"Yaremi ohhh! "
I jump in fright and freeze when I remember that this is the part of my vision where I'm crying over a dead body.I take slow steps as the voice keeps wailing, and I gulp as I follow. I walk to the other side of the bush and find another maid crying over a dead body.
However, I freeze when I see the body.
A shrill scream of horror and disbelief escapes my lips, and I rush to the body and crash on the ground beside it. I take her face in my hands and tears begin to effortlessly escape my eyes.
"Asake... Asake, look at me. What happened? Open your eyes. Asake!! "I scream as my eyes run over her motionless, battered body.
"What happened to her? "I scream at the maid who's crying before Asake.
"We... We were both in the maid's quarters when the fire started. We were all running... Trying... Trying to escape it, but she... But she fell, and... And they stampeded... "The maid begins but trails off as she breaks into fresh tears.
I look down at Asake, and my heart breaks.
"Asake... Asake, you can not do this to me. Please... You promised me that you'd be fine... Open your eyes! "I cry, as my body shakes in undiluted horror.I knew something bad was going to happen. I had a feeling something horrible would happen. I could feel it. And I warned her. I warned her, and she told me to relax. Now... Now she's dead?
No! Asake can not die like this. The goddess is not asleep that she'd let her children die such unjust and dishonorable deaths.
"Asake you can't do this to me... "I cry as I hug her battered face.
I look down at her face, and an unfathomable heaviness sits on my heart. Her ever bright, and lively brown eyes, are now concealed behind her shut eyelids and full lashes. Her cute, little nose, is not doing its job. It's not taking in nor giving out air. And her lips. Her beautiful, full lips are sealed and silent.
Oh, how I'd love to hear her scold me over something again. I want to hear her laughter again.
"Asake! "I let out a pained scream, but she doesn't reply.
I couldn't save her. I couldn't save her from the damnation I saw coming. I am the soon-to-be queen, and I couldn't save my closest friend when I saw danger. How then do I plan to save an entire village?
I'm like a failed mother. I couldn't save my Asake. Who then can I save? Asake can't leave me like this. She's too much for her story to just end like this. Her role in my life isn't done yet. Asake can't die!
"Yaremi, if you are not asleep. If you indeed stand for good and against evil, bring Asake back to me! Prove that you never sleep nor slumber! "I scream in agony as I hug my sister's lifeless body.
