Jennie never wanted this to happen. After a late night's practice she had come home just to see Lisa.
And, Oh, what a miserable sight it was. Lisa sat on the living room floor, crying.
Every tear that fell from Lisa's eyes to the carpet sent a shiver through her.
Immediately, she rushed to Lisa, kneeling down and taking Lisa's face carefully into her hands
"Hey, baby, what's the matter?"
Lisa's eyes widened in surprise, she hadn't heard Jennie come in when she saw her, everything came back and flashed before her eyes
The texts
The pictures
The dates
The other girl
Lisa felt cold, force drained from her body
She felt powerless. She felt lonely.
And Jennie looked oh, so concerned, so loving. Almost as if she genuinely cared for Lisa.
"No..." Lisa whispered
Jennie blinked in surprise,
"Wha-"
"Go away. Leave me alone."
Jennie shakes her head in confusion, but didn't back away
Lisa took Jennie's hands, that still rested on her face, and jerked them away as Lisa shouted,
"GET OUT, CHEATER"
Lisa had found out. No, no, no,...
Jennie tried to shake off the memories of that girl she met while away for a photoshoot, the affection she craved after being separated from Lisa for so long. The drinks and the touches
No, no, no
Jennie watched Lisa get up and tower above her, tears spilling from Lisa's eyes again, but this time from anger how dared she still be here
"I said. Get out. I don't ever want to see your face again."
Jennie felt tears well up in her eyes she didn't want to leave Lisa, live without Lisa, ever.
"No, baby, please, I can explain.."
"I think I know your explanation... I'll say this one last time, Get out!"
Jennie silently stood up. She looked into Lisa's eyes deeply. Her gaze, it felt so... sincere. Lisa couldn't believe what was happening. Lisa coldly stared back before turning around. She couldn't take it anymore.
A certain, unknown mist descended on Lisa as she heard the front door close. The rest of the night passed. The rest of the week passed. Everything felt cold and grey. As if Jennie had taken all the color with her when she left Lisa.
Lisa had blocked her number so she didn't see the endless amount of texts Jennie left her. Jennie knew that what she did wasn't acceptable. She knew that you could, should, would never forgive her.
And like Lisa's, her world felt drained from colour, happiness, laughter, warmth. Jennie felt empty. Lisa left a hole, a void, a cold feeling
Jennie sat in a coffee shop. She stirred her drink and looked outside the window. She had been here before, with Lisa. In fact, the two loved coming here, and did so often.
When Jennie closed her eyes, the sounds of the busy coffee place, the smell, the genre of music, the table, the chair she sat on all felt so familiar. It felt as if everything was back to the way it used to be. It felt as if, when she opened her eyes, Lisa would be there, grinning at her. Jennie tried to hold the precious memory of last winter.
But as details of the flashback faded, until only Lisa's sparkling eyes were left, the taunting feeling crept back to Jennie. She quickly opened her eyes. She sighed. She had lost Lisa. She had acted foolish and lost Lisa. She had made Lisa cry. She had hurt Lisa. She could never forgive herself. She wouldn't allow herself to.
That was the current situation. That was the reality that Jennie still had to accept. Getting over someone isn't simple. It takes time. With that last thought, she finished her coffee, gathered her things and got up. The bell rang and the door of the coffee shop flew open.
Jennie's world stopped turning. She was sure that everyone was able to hear her heartbeat that had suddenly sped up about a thousand times.
In the door opening stood Lisa.
Lisa walked into what was once her favourite coffee shop. It hurt coming here, as memories with Jennie flooded her mind the moment she set foot in there.
Lisa shivered, but as it had suddenly started pouring outside, she had nowhere else to seek refuge but here.
"Lisa!"
Lisa turned around.
Jennie stood in the path between two rows of tables, jacket half on, hair messy and an almost wild look in her eyes.
Jennie...
Jennie.
Jennie!
Jennie saw and took what was probably the last chance she'd get.
"Lisa! I'm sorry!-"
Jennie started walking in Lisa's direction.
"I am so, so sorry. I'm miserable without you!" She ran the last few passes to Lisa.
"I can't live without you. You are the colours, the sunshine, the giggles, the flowers, the everything that makes my life enjoyable. Please." She stood right in front of Lisa now and Lisa froze.
"Please take me back, I'll do everything, anything, I'll-"
Taking Jennie back, her coming home to Lisa, her touch, her smile... tears welt up in Jennie's eyes as Lisa didn't respond.
"Lisa! Lisa? Please..."
And Lisa didn't realise that tears were streaming down her face too. Tears from the part within her that longed for the girl in front of her. Jennie looked at her beggingly.
Lisa swallowed and mumbled
"How... How do I know you'll won't do it again?"
Jennie started beaming with hope.
"I won't; I promise, I can't, I need you, I-"
"You get one last chance."
Jennie started crying again, but this time it were tears of joy that streamed down her face. She threw her hands up in the air and cheered and then she threw her arms around Lisa.
She pulled Lisa close, closer then ever, as if she'd never let go. Lisa's shoulder became wet as Jennie was still crying.
"Thank you. I love you."
"We'll see about that." Lisa said as she closed her arms around Jennie and breathed in, what seemed to be the first time in months.
