LONG CHAPTER AHEAD

Lisa's POV

Lisa tried calling Jennie's phone for the umpteenth time today. Still no answer. She rubbed her temples. Maybe she deserved it. She had been such a bitch to Jennie in the past few weeks that she wouldn't be surprised if Jennie didn't want to have anything to do with her anymore. Oh god, what if–

ring ring ring

Lisa was suddenly jerked away from her thoughts by the ringing phone. Lisa answered immediately without even looking at the caller ID, hoping that it was–

"Jen?"
"What? No, this is Diana. You weren't at class today."

Lisa met Diana in law school a couple of weeks ago and the two hit it off right away when she learned that Diana's father was friends with hers. Diana introduced Lisa to her friends–a bunch of rich snobs–and she had been hanging out with them ever since. It was the reason why Lisa had been staying out late most nights in the past few weeks, and the reason for most of her and Jennie's fights.

"Yeah, I just didn't feel like it."
"Oooh is there trouble in paradise?"
"I... Yes."
"Aww, Lis. You know what you need?"
"..."
"Alcohol!"
"Look, I'm not really in the mood to–"
"Great. I'll pick you up in an hour."

The call ended before Lisa could even reply. She does not want to be socializing with other people right now. But maybe a couple of drinks wouldn't hurt.

When they arrived at the bar, Lisa and Diana sat on the bar stools in front of the bartender.

"What can I get you, ladies, to drink?"

"Give me your strongest." Lisa didn't plan on getting drunk that night but maybe a little buzz would help take her mind off Jennie even just for a little while.

"I'll have what she's having," Diana said to the bartender before turning to Lisa. "Starting with the heavy stuff, are we?"

"Why did you bring me here? This isn't your usual scene," Lisa asked, taking in the drab surroundings of the bar.

"I figured we could use a girl's night without... other distractions." Diana smiled at Lisa, her body leaning slightly towards her. Lisa was not stupid–at least sometimes. She knows when someone is coming on to her, and this was definitely one of those times. She immediately felt a pang of guilt for going in the first place. Lisa downed her whiskey. She decided that she will stay for a couple more drinks and then make up an excuse to leave.

After a few more drinks and meaningless conversations, the alcohol started to take effect, which is why when Diana placed a hand on her thigh and leaned in for a kiss, all she could do was freeze. And before she could register what was happening and pull away, it was too late–the damage had been done. Standing outside the bar, looking absolutely dejected, was Jennie.

Seeing Jennie snapped Lisa out of her stupor. She immediately pulled away and ran after Jennie who was now scurrying away from the bar.

"Jennie! Jennie, wait!"

Lisa caught up to Jennie and grabbed her hand which Jennie violently yanked before sharply turning to face Lisa, her face full of tears.

"Please, Jen. Let's talk about this," Lisa pleaded.

"You want to talk? Okay fine, let's talk! How long had this been going on?" Jennie shouted, drawing the attention of a few passersby.

"Nothing's going on! She was the one who kissed me! I didn't even kiss her back, I swear!" Lisa exclaimed, her voice full of desperation.

"Why should I believe you? Is that what you've been doing the past few weeks? Messing around while I was at home fucking wondering what I did wrong? Wh–while I was waiting for you to show up at the restaurant?" Jennie's voice cracked at the last sentence as tears continuously ran down her face, dripping on the pavement.
