Chapter 14

Tonis POV  *year later-the end of year challenges*
I was just looking at myself in the mirror trying to clear my head for the games when maddy and Zoe came in. Instantly I could smell maddies cigarette. "Do I need to tell you the rules again or did you learn your lesson from last time" maddy said sarcastically I laughed a little and turned to face the girls "I think I learned my lesson, but I wouldn't change last year. I saved that boy and I fought three older wolves. That's a gold medal in my opinion." I said joking but I could sense maddy get annoyed "you almost died you idiot" she snapped "come on mads not this argument again, I don't think toni wants to be put in hospital when she gets to go home tonight." Zoe said jokingly trying to calm down the situation "don't worry guys I have had the best two witches teach me so I think am ready" I said confidentiality maddy rolled her eyes "if you end up in the hospital because you have been stupid, I will personally kill you myself...got it?" Maddy said intensely then once I nodded she just left. I looked at Zoe confused but she just smiled sympathetically "good luck T stay safe, make sure you say bye to us before you go." She said then she left too. "Can all wolves go to the starting line immediately for camera fittings" I heard Cornelia's voice play through the speaker I took a deep breath, stood up and started slowly walking towards the starting line. I quickly scanned the line for any trouble but luckily there was none, then I tried to find the smallest wolf in the line am stood close to them. This time it was a younger girl she looked scared but her heart beat was mostly steady. "Hey" I whispered to the younger girl she looked at me confused "just get the smallest thing you can and get out of there, don't hang around for anyone else" I said quietly she just nodded and turned into her wolf form as the camera's where being placed around her neck. I quickly let emi jump out and she accepted the camera "can you remember the plan? What we have been talking about for the past year?" I said to Emily seriously she sighed at me "yes.get the biggest thing without getting hurt" she answered "and why are we doing that again? Because our friends said to" she was saying before I interrupted her "I don't care about these games emi, I want to know what I can do! How far I can go! Full strength,full speed everything! And this is our chance to impress my father!." I ramble but our conversation was cut short by Cornelia's voice booming through the speaker. "Lady's and gentlemen also those non specific gender people welcome to the wolf annual games! So our amazing wolves will race to the edge of the woods, hunt the biggest animals they can find then race back. The winner will be rewarded. There are no rules. Good luck." Emi got low to the ground. I looked up at the fake sky almost expecting to see everyone watching. The bell rang. Go!. Emi was gone from the line as soon as the bell started it was almost unbelievable really. As we got closer to the woods I could smell all the possible hunts I could catch "which one tiny?" Emi said to me struggling to tell which direction to go in "I don't know yet just keep running" after we where running for about 5 minutes I smelt something good. Something that would definitely make us win. A cougar. It's not the biggest but it's definitely the most dangerous animal we have in here. "Emi there! Get down!" I said excitedly she instantly got closer to the ground and stayed very very quiet. We watched as the cougar was just walking towards something. We very very slowly followed it. Then we saw...baby's? "Shit!" I said to emi she just seemed confused "what?" She asked "we can't kill it now! It's got kids! That's just evil" I sighed and tried to get emi to leave but she smelt something "someone else is here" she said as she got up just a little to be able to see around us better "look! Over there! Isn't that one of misty's wolf friends?" Emi said drawing my attention to the other wolf on the opposite side of us trying to hunt the same cougar. I tried to remember what my dad said to me last year when I was hurt but it felt so wrong just letting the wolf kill the mother and the kids, I knelt down and watched the wolf closely. "We can take it" I heard emi say with a growl I agreed happily liking that we where on the same page. The wolf was really focused on the cougar I don't think she even realised I was here "if we go now we can stop her" emi said desperately wanted to do something "wait not yet" I said as I watched the wolf, she was going to pounce "now!" I shouted at emi as I saw the wolf pounce. We both clashed in mid air and I used a lot of my strength to throw her into a tree away from the cougar. She whined but got up quickly and started to snarl and growl at me I stood my ground in front of the animals "what the hell is wrong with you" the wolf mind linked me "kids" was all I said back then we circled each other just growling I took a step towards her threateningly and that's what broke her confidence because she instantly stopped growling and her head lowered to show I had won. I stopped growling "go" I said and she ran off quickly I looked behind me and thankfully the cougar and it's kids where gone emi sighed "back to square one" she said as we stared running in an opposite direction waiting to smell anything I could hunt without that much guilt. Deer. "I smell deer" emi said excited we followed the sent and it was just a deer it was a huge stag with huge antlers just eating the grass. "That's it" I said to emi she agreed we waited for the perfect moment making sure to no make a noise "ready?" I asked emi and I just felt her get excited so I took that as a yes. We pounced and it worked. I could taste it's blood in my mouth as I started carrying it back to the Finnish line. I was running but not very fast since this thing is super heavy "are you happy toni? Can I see Cheryl now toni?" Emi said happily I laughed slightly "yeh emi you can see Cheryl thank you" I said as we crossed the Finnish line and placed the stag on the floor for everyone to see. I turned back into human form. there was no one else her just me and a few staff . "Did we win?" Emi asked I looked around more confused and they where all staring at me sympathetically, one of the staff came up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder "am sorry kid" my heart dropped. "What" I said to him "your friend the witch? She had an accident" the man said sadly "ZOE!" Emi shouted instantly jumped out and following the girls sent its so wrong to me now. I ran through the halls of the school in full wolf form not caring the amount of people I knocked over. I went to the nurses part and searched around "woah there emily! Calm down!" I heard Zoe say I turned around and turned back to me "I held her face "you are okay!? What happened!? Why have you been crying? Where is-" I stopped. "Where, where is maddy?" I said looking at Zoe she looked like she was going to burst into tears immediately "where is she!?" I asked getting angry at the situation. Still no answer "ZOE WHERE THE FUCK IS MADDISON!" I screamed pushing past her and into the room she came out of. There she was lay on a hospital bed wires connected from multiple places and her head wrapped in bandages and she had a machine to help her breath. "W-what" I started my voice braking at the sight of my best friend. "Matthew moss. He was being stupid and used a bad spell. It was meant for me toni. It should have hit me." Zoe said her voice breaking I turned to look at her anger flooding my body "I will kill him" I growled but Zoe pulled me into a hug "please don't, please don't leave me" she sobbed on my shoulder I nodded hugging her tighter. I can't leave now.
