Working at a gift shop was the best decision Emmy had made since moving to London, her adopted parents were both killed in a car accident, no one knew why the couple was targeted but all Emmy knew what it had something to do with their past.
Eliza and Pablo Madden adopted the girl when she was only six weeks old, her biological mother had decided it was best if she kept her away from her real family, even if her own husband didn't want to send her away, she only wanted what was best for only daughter.
"Ah, thank you." Emmy smiles at the old couple, when they held the door to her apartment complex open for her since her hands were occupied with a brown package in her hands.
Emmy didn't really like or enjoy that she was an orphan, since the death of her parents. The girl wasn't ever close with them but the only time they were together as one was when Emmy had turned six-teen that was over three years ago, then she got news that her parents were dead two months before her twentieth birthday.
"Steven, back already from work i see." Emmy smiles at the man, Steven Grant had become a close friend to the young girl, she didn't expect to make any friends but the man had changed her life around.
"Yes, I see that Donna has given you the day off, I didn't see you today." Steve entered the elevator along side her pressing the number three button.
Emmy chuckled shaking her head. "I wish, today she had me in the back, she's driving me crazy honestly, still don't know how you do it." She turns her head to look up at him.
Steven smiles glancing down at her. "You'll get use to it, love." Emmy looked up to the British man who lived across from her, how could she not he was, funny, kind, smart, a great person over all. She loved that about him.
The pair stood there in silence, it wasn't awkward at all, only for the bell to ring letting them know they had made to their floor, saying their goodbyes as they walked down the hallway going into their separate apartments, Emmy could finally let her arms breath.
"Gosh, I wonder what could it be." The brunette mumbles, using a pocket knife to cut the tape and rip the flaps of the box open. "What the hell..."
Taking a curiosity look down inside, she reaches inside to pull out a book, not just any book but it was a old Egyptian book, bring it out from the box blowing off the dust from the front cover.
"Does it have a nam—" The Madden girl flinches snapping her head over to the door almost dropping the book. "Crap." She mumbles placing the book down making her way towards the door.
"Luke? What the hell?" Emmy stood by the door when the brown headed boy pushed her shoulder entering the apartment, "please, make yourself at home." She sarcastically says shutting the door.
Luke Summers had been her best friend since the third grade, the pair reunited when she moved to London after his parents flew him across the country when they were only ten.
"Sorry, I know it's late but I couldn't get this off my mind." Luke breaths out sitting down on the soft yellow couch in her living room. Emmy sighs having no choice but to listen. "You ready?" She nods.
"Okay, so I was out by the lake like I always do after work and I saw something— well, more like a someone." Emmy leans forward on her knees watching Luke explain.
"I first thought it was nothing cause you know nothing strange ever happens but then Thanos happened, sorry— I getting off topic." Luke gets all flustered with a grin.
Emmy smiles shaking her head. "No, no, it's okay. Take your time." Luke nods taking a deep breath before he continued to tell his story for another ten minutes, everything he told her felt like a carnival ride that never stops.
"So, a man dressed in all white from head to toe was smacking—"
"Punching." Luke corrects her, Emmy nods. "He was punching actually."
Emmy squints her eyes staring tensely straight at Luke as she tossed a blueberry into her mouth. "Right..."
Luke drops his smile bring his cup of tea down to his lap. "You don't believe me, you think I'm on my meds again."
"Luke, of course I believe you." Emmy tells him in all honesty. "But— wait, did you at least take a picture?" Luke was also a photographer since he was in high school, he dream was to explore the deep caves and capture the history.
"Gosh, yeah I do actually." Luke stands up from the couch. "It's in my apartment, don't move I'm gonna get it." The boy didn't give her the chance to respond when he ran out the room.
"—i live here."
