36. All for one!

Princess Yona was on the town's square, pushing through the crowd as the maids called for her from behind a mass of people. She finally pushed through, standing in front of everyone. In the middle of the street, stood a large wooden implement, its sharp blade pulled up high. Two guards pulled the chained man, pushing him onto the podium and positioning his head on the rough wood. Yona's legs couldn't move and her body shook in fear. She wanted to call for her lover but her voice was silent. Without a warning, a sharp blade of the guillotine was let loose, falling directly on Bang Chan's neck.

"No!!!" Yona screamed, her whole body covered in a cold sweat.

A maid came to her, "Calm down, Your Highness... You had a bad dream," the maid said, handing Yona a glass of water.

It took the princess a few seconds to realize that it was already morning and that she was sitting in her bed in her nightgown, an IV needle attached to her left hand. She pushed the maid's offered hand and pulled out the needle.

"Your Highness, you really shouldn't do that!"

"Shut up!" Yona yelled at the poor maid, stood up from her bed, and walked towards the door. The door was locked, of course, so Yona banged forcefully, "Let me out! Let me out of here!" she repeated dozen times until the door was unlocked and she stepped back to let the person in.

King Alexander came in, followed by Queen Yana and Prince Alec. Yona bowed to them, lifting the skirt of her nightgown.

"Father, where's Chris?" Yona asked and received a slap in return.

"I don't want to hear his name out of your mouth ever again!" the king yelled and Yona flipped.

"That is his name and I'll say it as many times as I want to!" another slap, "You can slap me all you want, father! I love him! I love Christopher Bang!" and another. Yona held her balance, even though she was weak.

"Shut your mouth!" the king raged, "Do you know how many hours I spent last night on the phone with the North King?! He heard what you did and pulled the marriage agreement!"

"What?" Yona held her cheek, shocked at her father's words.

"Do you even realize how much damage your foolish play with that peasant is going to cause our kingdom?! No, you don't!"

Yona's breath quickened. She looked at her mother and her brother who stood silent. "Are you serious?" the princess asked, looking back at the king, "Did you seriously want to marry me off to a king who started a war with us?! What kind of sick and twisted--"

She didn't finish her sentence, as the king hit her other cheek, making Yona stumble.

"I never asked for your opinion on this! It was all a part of a plan to make peace between two kingdoms and you ruined it!"

"But many soldiers were injured in the battle... some even died! How can you--"

Another slap. "I told you to keep quiet!"

"Never!" Yona yelled and was slapped again, "You can beat me all you want but you'll never take my ability to speak my mind! And you'll never take away my love for Chris!" she dodged another hit, stepping backward, "I'm sick and tired of you doing whatever you like with me! I'm not your puppet, father! Go ahead, disown me, I'm done with being a princess if this is the treatment I'll receive!" she yelled her thoughts out. Yona had nothing more to lose.

"When will you learn...?" the king started, balling his fists, "I barely survived the talking when you got attacked in the town, and now this!?" he raised his voice again, "The word spreads like wildfire, it already reached the North kingdom and I can't possibly handle everybody in town washing their mouths about how my daughter, the princess, slept with a soldier, a mere commoner!"
