"Get in!" Natasha yelled. She had spotted Yelena running up a side road. As Yelena climbed into the car, Natasha started driving up the road. She could see someone on a motorbike following them. "Do you have an explanation for why you're on the hit list of the guy who's currently hunting down Avengers?"
"(Y/N)." Yelena said as she looked out of the back of the car. The bike was getting closer but Natasha turned sharply and a car passed the road, forcing the bike to continue.
"(Y/N)?" Natasha repeated, sounding somewhat in disbelief."
"She lulled me to sleep and then she went rogue." Yelena ducked as the bike came out of nowhere and her window was shot out.
"Yelena you're the best assassin for your age and you let (Y/N)... what... trick you or something? You're sure this was (Y/N)?" Natasha wasn't sure what was going on. All she knew was Yelena needed to be extracted so she came to help.
"(Y/N) had a meeting and then the place she was going got blown up. She called me and said get out of the apartment which blew up just as I got out. I grabbed the go back but I found this." Yelena opened the bag she had with her. At the few glances she spared the item in Natasha's hands she sighed.
"That... that is the thing that was powering the suit of the guy sent to kill the Avengers." Natasha said as she spun round another corner and sped across a long open stretch of road. She saw something above the car and watched as a gold and red object dropped around the bike, sending a shock through it, knocking the rider off.
"There's no way (Y/N) has anything to do with that." Yelena insisted. Natasha slowed the car and stopped, glancing at Yelena dubiously. "There is no way someone that small and clumsy could be dangerous."
"She has vanished, blown up her home and gave you the thing powering a suit worn by one of the most wanted men in the world. Yelena it's stupid to not assume that (Y/N) is involved." Natasha got out, gun drawn and approached the crumpled person on the floor. Tony lowered himself into view.
"There is no way that (Y/N) is involved." Yelena snapped. Natasha sighed, glancing at Yelena who stomped over, yanked the bijker to their feet and pulled the helmet off. Upon seeing who the biker was, Yelena let out a sigh. "For a moment I thought you were (Y/N)."
"(Y/N)'s dead." He said. Yelena dropped him and looked at Natasha.
"That is not true! She phoned me after." She insisted. Natasha nodded.
"I believe you but we need to get this guy somewhere we can interrogate him." Natasha said quickly. She muttered something to Tony who nodded. After he made a call several black cars arrived. Yelena followed Natasha to a car, reluctantly. Once she was inside she hesitated.
"Yelena. This is Fury and Maria." Natasha said quickly.
"We managed to find the last time any camera saw (Y/N)." Maria said after a quick nod to Yelena. Yelena snatched the tablet Maria was showing them and carefully watched the video.
"Did (Y/N) mention anything to do with their job? The new boss?" Fury asked.
"No. (Y/N) is not part of this. There is no way." Yelena said calmly. She got out again, slamming down the tablet and storming away. She ignored Natasha's phone calls and instead wandered around places that you'd been recently. It was getting dark by the time she considered finding Natasha and asking if she could stay the night. She cut through the old bookstore that you liked. It was now a mix of old building and new, instead of knocking it down after the battle of New York the owners fused the old building with new stronger materials leaving a contrasting looking building. Yelena liked the building for its many exits. One out the back that led to a small garden with steep stairs that cut down to a small street of tiny shops. The front led out to the main street and there was a large window in the hallway to the bathroom that could be pushed open and you could step through, vanishing into a side street. She had commented several times that she would go there to lose someone. As she cut through the back and smiled at the weary shop owner, from the corner of her eye she caught sight of someone reading. There was a small bookshelf, tall and thin. If you were to squeeze between it and the wall you could find an old ladder that would have been used for a grand bookcase. The ladder led to a small snug space almost entirely out of sight.
"(Y/N)! People are looking for you." Yelena said as she pushed through the gap and climbed up the ladder. She rolled her eyes when you set the book down and hugged her.
"You were meant to meet me here hours ago." You scolded Yelena. She gave you a look of disbelief and found words failed her. "We said if there was an emergency we should meet here. Our apartment blew up."
"You are right. We should get you out of here." Yelena said after a moment. You followed her out and pointed out the way to the bus stop. Yelena wasn't sure it would be safe but relented when you insisted you'd be fine. After several minutes of waiting Yelena noticed someone watching the two of you from what had looked like an empty store front.
"I don't see anything." You muttered.
"This is my job. To notice these things. We should go, something is wrong." Yelena insisted. You glanced around but saw no one around. With a hesitant sigh you agreed and followed Yelena. "There's a safe house not too far. There is a little food, water, weapons. Nothing else."
You didn't say anything but followed her. As you neared the safe house, according to Yelena, you could feel the prickle of someone watching. It made you nervous. You assumed Yelena felt it too as she made you double back several times but with each loop the feeling seemed to close in. Yelena led you through a maze of alleyways then up to a rooftop. You paused when you threw a grappling hook over the side of the building and turned to you.
"I can't." You insisted. She rolled her eyes and motioned for you to be quiet. You felt something clip to you then you were pulled against Yelena who swung the both of you onto the side of the next building. She grunted as she took the brunt of the hit, colliding with the wall and pulled the both of you up the rest of the way and then rolled onto the roof, releasing you as she did.
"There's a satellite phone in the air vent over there. It's only number is Natasha's. Stay low." Yelena said as she caught her breath. You tried to stay low, freezing when a red dot hovered over your shoulder. Yelena crawled across the floor and tackled you. The two of you landed, Yelena on top of you as a shot cracked the air. You held up the phone, panting a little.
"I got it." you whispered.
"Great." She whispered back. She took the phone and dialled for Natasha. "Follow me." She whispered. She slid round to the other side of the air vent and helped you do the same.
"Yelena?" You heard yelling through the phone.
"Shh. I have (Y/N). Someone just tried to shoot her. We've been trying to lose them for over an hour." Yelena said quietly.
"Can you stay where you are?"
"We don't have a choice. They're good." Yelena answered. You sat perfectly still and stared at a scuff on Yelena's new boots. She hung up the phone and shoved it into a pocket inside her coat. The two of you sat together. Yelena tried to figure out where the shooter had gone while you tried to stay as still as possible in case they were still nearby. You jumped when something rocketed overhead. Then the door to the roof burst open. You watched as someone twriled through the air and drew fire.
"Come this way." You turned and found Natasha running your way.
"You really brought the Avengers out to save us?" Yelena said sarcastically as she gripped your arm and pulled you along with her.
"You were right about (Y/N). We found footage of her uncovering the boss's secret. We need to get you out of here. There is a Stark jet waiting to take you both to Saint Petersburg. From there it's up to you to keep (Y/N) safe until it's safe." Natasha explained. You stumbled a little and Yelena glanced at you.
"We'll be fine." Yelena said. Though to whom it was debatable. An armoured car pulled up as soon as the small group guided you through the building and out to the street. While you found yourself sped to the airport and bundled onto the plane, Yelena took a moment to talk with Natasha. You watched the hug from the plane window before Yelena turned to get onboard and yelled at you for being next to the window. The plane was self driving and landed at several airports before stopping in a small airport in Saint Petersburg. You and Yelena disembarked and watched as it took off almost immediately.
"Where do we go now?" You asked her.
"You don't need to worry. I have a place we can go. But next time you plan on taking on a crazed, wanted, millionaire. Give me a heads up so I don't almost get blown up?" Yelena said to you. She smiled when you sighed and agreed. She started leading the way through woods, trees and large fields. After a while a farm came into sight. "Well. We're here."
