I screamed.
And not just the simple scream, nah, I screamed like I just got my vocal cords back, and was determined to break them all over again. I screamed so loud I'm sure Tweety will have a heart attack.
"Geez! Calm down!" Preeti screeched in horror from the phone.
Oh, right, she is still on the call. Tweety, you have someone to share the emergency ward at the hospital.
No, wait! That's not important right now!
She said yes!
The Priya Mathur said yes to me! The little, tiny, ever so insignificant me!
What is this!?
Am I dreaming?
I had a horrible day today! Maybe it is my brain trying to make me feel better?
I pinched myself.
Fuck, no this is real!
"What is it!? What happened here!?" Mom barged in like a warrior in my room, a vase in her hand, following her my dad, frantic and panicked, holding the end of her pallu.
I scowled.
Seriously, Dad!? You're a criminal lawyer for god's sake!
"Mummy!" I didn't know whether to cry or laugh, so I did both. She startled as I reached closer and held her shoulders, shaking her vigorously.
"Wait! Wait! Wait! You'll get me nauseous!" She gasped out, throwing the vase on the bed and holding her head tightly.
I stopped, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry!"
"Why did you scream?" Dad queried. "You almost gave us a heart attack!"
I chuckled. "I'm so happy!" I looked over at him before my eyes drifted back to Mom. "God, I'm so happy, Mom." I hugged her tight. I pulled away immediately to see her reaction.
She smiled despite the initial shock I gave them in the middle of the night. "What is it?"
"It's-" I halted abruptly.
Maybe it's not the right time to tell them about Priya?
I'll have to touch the subject first, then probe gently. Not just tear into it head-on.
"I- I wanted something. But uhm, but I thought it was a far-fetched dream. So I'm just- I'm shocked this happened. I finally have a chance to have it." I explained as best as I could while making sure I was vague about it.
Mom frowned but her smile didn't fall. "I'm happy for you."
"Yeah, I'm sleepy!" Dad tugged at the end of her saree.
