CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE - BOXED IN

𝓣𝚁𝙴𝙽𝚃

"TODAY MARKS THE OFFICIAL START to the Pan Global Games. Teams from around the world will be competing. From track and field to swimming and gymnastics, there are dozens of events happening. The only hard part is picking what to see first! I'm Muriel Reeves, Coral Harbor news." Muriel said on the screen.

I was at the base with the others, wearing a black flannel over a green t-shirt as Zoey turned off the television and faced us.

"Guys, my mom is right. What are we gonna watch?" Zoey asked.

"High jump could be pretty cool." Nate replied as he jumped in the air, making Zoey laugh.

"I wanna see the pros shoot some hoops!" Steel mimicked shooting a basketball.

"Nah. Weightlifting is where it's at." Ravi flexed his bicep. "Maybe I should enter the competition."

Commander Shaw then walked in. "Sorry to ruin the party, but I need four of you to do a routine check on several Morph-X Towers." She informed.

"But the Games are starting!" Steel complained.

"You can't disregard your responsibilities just because there's something else you'd rather do." Commander Shaw informed.

"You're right, Commander. We'll get the job done." Devon promised.

"Good." Commander Shaw said, turning around and walking out of the room.

"When you said 'we'll,' what did you mean exactly?" Ravi asked Devon.

"All of us, of course. If we all chip in, we'll finish faster, and then maybe we can still catch some of the games." Devon replied. "That's fair, right?"

"Sounds good." Zoey agreed as we began to head out.

"Whoa. Hold on. I'll miss the weightlifting. Why should all of us have to miss some of the events when only four really need to work?" Ravi questioned.

"Because we're a team, that's why." Devon answered.

"Sure, but I'll miss weightlifting! Let's draw names from a hat. That's the only fair way to decide who goes to the games and who checks the Towers." Ravi suggested.

"Well, when you put it like that, it's very logical." Steel said.

"Okay. Let's do it." Nate agreed.

"Yes!" Ravi cheered.

We were all gathered at the table. "Okay. Everyone's name is in the bucket. The first four I draw out stay here to work. Got it?" Nate told us.

"Do it, Nate!" Steel replied.

Nate exhaled as he pulled out a piece of paper, giving it to Ravi as he opened it. "Zoey." He read out as Nate handed him the next one.
