~Mia's POV~~3 months later~
I walked upstairs to Kaz's office, as he was working on a heist, and I knew he overworked when planning. I had been working a shift at the Crow Club when I realized. I headed upstairs and knocked on the door. I heard Kaz say "Come in" so I opened the door and walked in. Kaz, as usual, was leaning over his desk and looking at a blueprint as well as some maps that Inej got for him, no doubt. That girl astounded me. I am convinced she is half-shadow. I set his meal on the table next to him and I sat in the armchair beside him. He smirked without looking up " So, you finished your shift already, darling? " I laughed " You know it. Jesper said he'd be heading in soon. I was honestly shocked. I think Wylan coerced him, to be frankly honest. " Kaz chuckled " Most likely." I watched him work, curious " So, what unfortunate merch are you planning on destroying this time?" He chuckled once more " A mercher on the East Stave is having a party, well more like a ball of some sort, and we are planning on attending. I have a couple more loose ends to tie up and we'll be ready to attend the party of the season, and leave with a couple thousand kruge. " I smirked at the thought of a mercher getting what he deserves. Kaz smiled and I watched as he worked. He finished mapping thirty minutes later and walked over to me. I stood up and smiled at him " So, are you finished with the backup plan for the backup plan?" He laughed " Yes, I am. And now I'm all yours. " I wrapped my pinky around his and he then squeezed my hand once, which automatically caused me to smile. He looked at me smugly and I rolled my eyes at his expression. Kaz smiled " C'mon, we have pigeons to pluck. " I smiled and followed him. When we came through the back entrance of the Crow Club, I found that it was brimming with customers. I smirked at the fact that these people were willing to throw away their wages on a spin of the Makker's Wheel or a quick drink. I sat beside Inej at a table as she watched for cheating in cards. She smiled when she saw me " Hey Mia, what are you up to?" I laughed " Well, Kaz finished his planning and now I am keeping watch. And I wanted to see my best friend, as well." Inej laughed at that " Yeah right, like I'm your best friend." I smiled sadly " No. You're one of my only friends actually. Besides you, Jes, Nina, Matthias and Wy are my only friends in the this godforsaken city. " Inej smiled " What about Kaz? " I looked down with a smile " That's different. " She nodded with a knowing look and my face heated up. She laughed at that, and we continued watching the crowd. Jesper walked over and sat beside me as he ordered a drink. He smiled " Hello love, what are you two lovelies doing sitting here by yourselves? " I laughed " Why, thank you Jes. And we are watching for cheats. Kaz has had an influx of cheaters in the last two weeks so me and Inej have been switching posts for the past couple of days, and watching. " Jes nodded and downed his drink " Well, it was lovely to see you two, but I have a shift to finish. I'll see you girls later, alright?" We both nodded and I watched as Jes walked off the watch the door. I got up and after Inej noticed where I was going, I walked over to Kaz, and sat beside him. He sent a crooked grin my way and then went back to watching the crowd " Hello, Mia. Did you find anything interesting in your observations? " I sighed " Not really. I did see a customer hassle a waitress, so I sent Jesper to deal with it. I was tempted to throw him out myself, but I have to keep up my image. " Kaz looked at me " And what image is that exactly? " I chuckled " A passive aggressive female Barrel thug. Who cares for no one. " I winked at him and he rolled his eyes with a quirk of his lips.
