I came to a decision pretty quickly after Phillip left. I just needed the right resources for me to execute my plan.
I quickly made my way over to the wardrobe that sat nearby the attic window. I swiftly pulled the drawers, tossing pieces of clothing everywhere behind me. I had to find it. If I ended up getting rid of it or forgetting it, would the plan even work?
Shorts and pants flew overhead and I cursed under my breath. I reached the bottom of this drawer. So maybe it's in a completely different one.
I turned towards another one and pulled it out before swiftly going through it as well. Anger slowly started to bubble up as more clothes were thrown overhead.
Then my fingers brushed against something hard. I reached in and gripped it before yanking it out. I scanned it with a smile on my face and nodded excitedly. I actually did keep it!
In my hand was my old phone, the one that I had everyone's numbers on. I turned away before pausing. I looked back at the drawer to see the small earpiece sitting there. I pursed my lips before reaching down and picking it up, placing it in my ear.
It wouldn't work. I put Piper on a drive soon after the events in Siberia. I haven't heard her robotic voice in a long time. Maybe I could find where Dad put it so I could transfer her back.
I made my way to the stairs and ran down, stopping myself from loosing balance at the bottom. I stepped over Phillip's strewn around toys and bolted into the kitchen. Mom glanced up and over to me, her eyes wide with shock.
She put down the dish that she was cleaning as I ran by, watching as I slowed down when I got near to the home phone. She frowned at me, "Nicole, I'm surprised you came downstairs! Are you sleeping any better?"
I shook my head slowly before turning to look at her. She saw the set look on my face before frowning even more. I sighed before looking away and towards the phone, picking it up, "It's fine Mom. I've just been tired. And also, teach your son that suffocating sleeping people with a pillow isn't cool."
She scoffed, "Well, for your information, I remember you doing that to me when you were four. And he's your brother so treat him that way."
I rolled my eyes before clicking the power button on my own phone. I groaned with the dead battery symbol appeared. I looked around the room before seeing a phone charger and I walked over to it. I plugged it in before turning to look at Mom, watching as she put down the dish entirely and placed her soapy hands on her hips.
I looked from the dishes to her before giving her finger guns, a small grin on my face, "Ah, so I assume that Dad didn't do the dishes yesterday?"
"No, because he is working later than usual because we need more money and are harboring a fugitive," she hummed, looking away from me. She sighed softly, "If they find out, we need to send Phil somewhere. Your Aunt Dahlia said a while ago that if we hit rock bottom, she'd take him until we resurfaced."
I glanced over towards my phone, watching as it powered on. I walked over to it and unlocked it, rapidly opening the contacts section of my phone. I nodded my head slowly before tapping on a contact, looking at her with a small frown on my face.
She watched as I walked towards the home phone before stopping. I turned to look towards her and giggled quietly, a sad look on my face, "Mom, I love you, you know that? I love Dad and I love Phillip. Life just... is complicated. Has been."
"My daughter has a pair of wings, was an Avenger and is now a fugitive," she laughed, shaking her head as she looked towards the ground, "I think I realized life was complicated when you and Steph appeared at the doorstep that one time."
