I faced away from everyone as the file was placed before the eyepatch man, Nick Fury. Director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention thing. Don't care enough to finish it. I didn't have my mask on, as I could "trust" these people I just met. Jeremiah is different.
How different, I don't know. I just trust him more than the rest.
"So, these are HYDRA files, right?" Nick asked, his hand grazing over the top of the files. I peered over my shoulder as I watched their movements, my eyes narrowed.
"Yes. Louis Rose is one of the head HYDRA honchos," Jeremiah responded, then he gestured in my direction, "This here is Arch. They apparently called her Angel while she worked for Dr. Rose."
"What was the change of heart? What makes us trust you?"
I stared at them, frowning as I turned around to fully face them, "Change of heart my ass. I hardly liked them- they just gave me a place to live and some food to eat. It was more or less making sure I didn't die of hypothermia, disease, or starvation."
"Foul tongue for a kid."
"When you realize what I've been through, I think a foul tongue is the least of your issues," I retorted, gazing away from them as I leaned against the wall, "I have too many questions to care at the moment."
Nick nodded, before turning back towards the file, opening it up, pulling out the files and handing them towards Jeremiah to organize, "So, mysterious Arch, tell us about yourself."
I scoff, shaking my head as I looked at him, "You think I don't want to learn about you? Here, let's do a trade- I tell things about me to you, and you do the same for me? Deal?"
"Depends on what I have to say."
I groaned, and shook my head, "Just... nevermind. I'm not giving you information on my family or friends."
"I would assume that there's a lot you don't want us to know."
"Most of the stuff you probably wouldn't want to know, I want to know," I replied, before gesturing towards the papers, "In there are countless people experimented on. My file isn't in there for some reason. I think it was because Rose didn't want me finding out what they did to me.
"Anyways, Samuel said my light was the result of their experiments. Why I was chosen is still unknown to me, but I was dead before. I died saving this boy- Jack? Lucas? I don't remember. But I was given these-" I spoke, taking a few steps forward and letting my wings manifest. The white feathers shimmered under the light in the building as I gazed at Nick, "I apparently saved the reincarnation of a gods kid. As a gift, I was given life, and these. I don't remember much after that, except the dream I had with the god."
Nick nodded, before gazed back at the files as he grabbed the one titled Subject 1.
"Oh, Samuel Gray's file. Apparently Louis Rose's most loyal supporter. He was the first person Louis experimented on."
"You have no memory of them, right?"
"No memory at all. I just remember Louis offered me a place to stay if I worked for him. I took him up on the offer."
Nick dropped Samuel's papers, before gazing over towards me, "Samuel's ability was Alter. He could change the past of someone's mind."
My body grew cold as I registered his words, "What?"
He turned away from me, nodding towards Jeremiah who grabbed the papers, and took them to another room. I walked after Nick, repeating my question when he stood by a window, "We've been after him for a while. Why didn't you take him with you?"
