I sat perched on top of a tree, my eyes scanning the forest as I reached into the pocket of my suit, pulling out the photo of the man I was looking after.
Stupid fool. If he hadn't decided to run off during enemy fire, I'd still have a clear picture on where he was.
I raised my left hand towards my face, scanning the skin. Small, golden splotches covered my skin. Perks of having godly powers, I guess. My blood's golden.
My eyes turned towards the edge of the clearing, where a man poked through, scanning around as he shivered in the cold air. I launched off of the tree, landing in front of him as I scowled, "You learn your lesson, Sam?"
"I still don't get why I have to call you Angel..." Sam murmured, looking away from the younger girl as she shrugged, turning around as they continued walking.
"Because that's what your boss wants to call me. Simple as that," I responded, scratching my cheek as I huffed, turning my gaze back towards the older man. He was staring at my left arm, a confused look taking over his face, "What?"
"Is your blood golden? Or is that just some paint?" He asked, pointing towards the splotches on my arm.
I looked at my arm, before brushing my right hand over the cut skin on my left arm, "Yeah, it's my blood. It is golden. You know, I wouldn't have dried blood on my arm if you hadn't let everyone know in a two mile radius that you were there."
"Look, it worked. We got the files. Now to get out of here-"
"Nuh-uh, not happening. We are waiting till the are out of the skies. I can get you back to your boss safely, with the files and information still intact," I spat, folding my arms as I mumbled under my breath, "I don't even know why he sent you. I mean, you're reckless, don't think before you do anything, and could care less about the stuff you don't have."
"Excuse me, but Mr. Rose has given you a place to live. I don't think you should be speaking like that," Sam retorted.
"I am not speaking ill of Rose. I am just questioning his thought process of sending you for this dumb mission. It's obvious he didn't trust you enough that I was sent to make sure you didn't die."
"Look, I didn't ask for you to pester me. You're a child, so why don't you head on home to your mommy and daddy, suck on a lollipop and leave me the fuck alone, aight?"
I laughed, shaking my head as I walked away from him, "Remember those words when you're strung up and bleeding out, Sam. I'm sure these people don't care about who they're messing with."
With that, I let my wings manifest, and jump into the air, flying away from the hot-headed man.
Louis Rose. He's a kind man to those who work for him. But he never gives me anything information about why I'm saving his workers. I'm more or less likely feeding the flame of a terrible plot.
But he gives me a place to sleep, and eat. It's a lot easier for me to go by Arch instead of walking the streets as a girl who is supposed to be dead.
My hand gripped onto a branch and I hoisted myself up, snickering as I watched Sam kick the ground, furious that I had left him, "That fucking no good, winged brat. Why would Louis waste time and money on her? Just let her die already!"
I sat down on the branch, my legs tucking beneath the branch as my eyes followed his movements.
The clicking of a gun made me turned my head around, eyes widening as I saw a man kneeling behind a tree, gun aimed directly at Sam's chest as the shot fired.
I launched off the tree, using my left hand to click the earpiece in my left ear, which allowed my helmet to manifest, blocking my face to be recognized. I then aimed my right hand forward as a pulse of light shot out, hitting the man in the chest as my wings spread out, stopping me from falling. I gripped onto his neck, kneeing him in the stomach as I used my other leg to kick the gun out of the way, heating up my hand to burn his skin.
